Today I was loading the mag of a XD and one of the rounds felt wrong. the side is caved in like a fat chisel was used on the side and hit with a hammer. I know better than to try and fire it my question is would it be ok to pull it down and reuse the components minus the casing? can i punch the primer without setting it off?

You can reuse the bullet and the powder but I doubt you could reuse the primer, likely would not stay in the pocket again, you could remove it without making it go off but it will likely be damaged in process.

just pulled it and I cant reuse the bullet either. whatever smashed the case in made the base of the bullet look like a G.

Should have been able to tell the bullet was damaged prior to removing it I would think, then of course if I had seen it my answer would have been different.

At least you can use the powder!!!

This a factory round?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Yes it was a factory round. Right out of a WWB of 9mm fresh from wal-mart.

Be careful about reusing powder that you do not know.  You could be playing with bad mojo.
