| Do I have to take the second part of the C&R form that says for LEO to the Sheriff or does the ATF mail it when the license is issued? |
you may mail it .. hand deliver it .. or send it by carrier pigeon
it doesn't matter how it gets to the CLEO but it does have to get there! the ATF will check up on the CLEO copy and if they don't have it .. NO license for you! one check payable to the BATFE in the amount of $30 (which needs to be renewed every 3 yrs) |

Any KC guys want to hold my hand while I fill out my C&R form? I actually haven't even looked at it since I got it about 6 months ago. It really is as easy as it appears. Name, address, SSN, etc. Sign & date it and include a $30 check or CC#. Ask away. The difficult (to understand) part is the Certification form where you, the person named on Line 2, are certifying that you, the applicant named on Line 1, are indeed a United States Citizen. On line 3 you list your Country of residence and it had better be the United States of America. Skip line 4 and enter "NO" on Line 5. Then skip down to Line 7 and sign & date the form. |
| Does the ATF actually check to see if the CLEO got it? I just renewed mine and I mailed a copy, the time before when I renewed I hand delivered it. years ago nobody cared and nobody had to be notified. I do know the questions ask if you notified the CLEO, it doesn't say anything about what they have to do with it. |

The last time I renewed the C&R I forgot to mail the CLEO copy to the Sheriff's Dept. and I got a notice from the ATF that the CLEO wasn't notified and they couldn't process the renewal until the CLEO had their copy. |

Send a postal money order or cashier's check so that your application won't be held up while they wait for your check to clear. oops, too late. I sent them a personal check. it won't be held up .. the first thing they do is deposit the $ .. then work on the appl. no need to worry .. |

They want your money, your check will be cashed as fast a possible, and will never be the holdup. Using a personal check, actually has the advantage of letting you know your stuff was received and started to process, something you don't get with MO or counter check. |

Or you could have filled out the credit card info on the front of the form. You would know even faster than a check when they ran it through.
ETA- I just checked my bank account, I sent the form on the 23rd, they charged my card today. That's six days with a holiday and a weekend! Now if I can just get them to work on the application that fast....

Ain't it funny how the .gov actually does work efficiently sometimes.
