Just picked up a set of green Trigicon/Ameriglo NS for my FNP. I don't have the sweet little tool for pushing out the sites.......so............ 1. Can I do this myself with a vice/something to push em' out? 2. How much will it cost to take it to, say......Dennys?.....or any other smith? Suggestions |

Put the slide in a vice (padded, I use leather), and then use a brass punch to tap the sites out. You may need a small file to fit the new sites. Don't do too much with the file. You can always remove metal, but you can not put it back if you take too much off. Tap the new sites in with a brass bunch and small hammer. Good Luck, DBAR BTW, if your going to have someone install them for you, don't take it to Denny's. They charge more than anyone else I know. |

Hi, A "pusher" is for those who do not have a heavy machine vise. They work great. The downside is that they are expensive for the ocassional user. At our shop (Lincoln, MO), we put the slide in the vise on the knee mill (about 3000 pounds) and drift out the old sights. I recently had a Springfield XD that we had to machine out the old sights. The customer later told us that he had read on the Internet that Springfield uses a press to install them under extreme pressure. I believe him ! If you are close to us, we can do it for you. Usual charge is $25-$35. Don @ Ozark Armory Lincoln, MO C2 since 1983 |
they used to, but now just use a steel punch. |
