I finally got the move (pretty much) done. I am now officially a resident of Warrenton (with a Wright city address) MO. Hope to get everything unpacked in the next few weeks and get a reloading room () built in the basement. Cant wait to find a range and get shooting.

Hi ya neighbor. I am just a few miles west and south of warrenton city myself. Maybe we can go out to Bench Rest Rifle Club sometime and let you see that range. Other than that, I am only aware of Reifsnider (SP?). Which aint to bad for the cost (free). But I rather spend the 200 bucks a year to be a member of BRRC. Drop me a line sometime and lets see if we can set something up.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I have been pretty busy getting settled in. Still have a bunch of unpacking to do. Also trying to lay the plans for building my "man cave" in the unfinished basement. Got to get a reloading bench built and unpack all my gear. Thanks for all the invites and hospitality. From what I had heard, I thought Reifschneider was going to be a really nice range, but if there are better alternatives for only a couple hundred bucks a year, I definitely want to check it out. I currently live in a new subdivision just off hwy AA. It actually has a Wright City address, but is really in Warrenton, about 5 minutes from the Wal Mart. We also bought a beautiful 5 acres in "Deer Run" about 10 minutes South of I-70 in Warrenton if anyone is familiar with it. We plan to build a home (and 250-300 yard range) in the next few years. Lets try and schedule a get together sometime this summer and do some shooting.  Looking forward to meeting you guys and making some new friends.

Guys, what ranges besides Reifschneider are local to me in Warrenton?

World class place.  I have shot quite a few matches here, both rifle and pistol.  Max-Paul is a member, maybe we can all go together sometime to a IDPA match or sjust plinking.

Deer Run! Shoot that aint even a mile from me. I am just a wee bit south of that place. And hiway AA? I can only think of "A" right now. Thats the north service road just east of 47 by the  (awe shoot cant remember which it is) Super 8 Hotel. And there are several subdivisions going up on that about what? 1 mile off of the service road? Gee, I wonder if Deer Run is going to have a problem with a range in the back yard? Do they have any kind of subdivision convent?

Not into matches myself, but usually the range or should say the part of the range that the match is being held on is open to all compeditors. But do not think of coming to the range and wondering to a different part. If caught, you will be driven off. If you are a repeat offender, you will be before a judge. But you are welcomed to go to the match and watch or join in.

But if we schedule a day of plinking I will be glad to host it. We just all got to abide by the rules and we stay together at the same range. Do not come planning to do a mag dump or short faster than the 3 sec. rule. Cant do that at Benchrest Rifle Club. Thats for over at Reifschider.

Looking forward to sometime we can get together..

Benchrest is just around the corner from your house.

Go North on AA until it ends at a tee with a gravel road, turn right, go about 1/8th mile then turn left and follow that road to the blacktop.  At the blacktop you'll see a sign pointing North again; follow that to the club.

Access is limited by the gates, so you'll either need to get with one of us to get a tour, or you might catch Scott Pieper at the trailer near the entrance.  Scott is the club president right now and the club caretaker.

I havent checked any of the neighborhood covenants, but I hope you are wrong about the restrictions. My father in law was one of the original landowners in Deer Run, and either sits or used to sit on the neighborhood council (or whatever they call it). I told him I wanted to build a range and discussed it with him. He said it would be no problem. That doesnt mean it is for sure, but at least it was his belief. If I cannot have a range, I will still build there because I think it is a beautiful piece of property.

At any rate, I am looking forward to somebody scheduling a get together. Lets make it happen.

Dont know if this is to late for you to see this. But going to play hooky tomorrow and go out to BRRC with my 50. Send me a private and I will check back later. If you want to go, leave me your phone number and latest I can call or earliest tomorrow morning. Thinking about pulling out of here by 9AM

I'm in Montgomery City, let me know if you get a time set up to shoot.  There is also a MODC range at Wellsville Mo.  Nothing fancy, but no one will bother you there.

I am loading up a bunch of 308 rounds for my Savage 10FCP. Anybody else around the Warrenton area shoot LR and want to plan a trip in the next few weeks? Preferably a free range or one that a non member can try out free before joining.

I was planning to load up some more 50s in the next few days. I would have my AR-15 varmint rifle to take out, but I raped it's NF to put on the 50. Got to get it a new scope or put one of my old crappy ones on with new 1" rings.  Lets trade phone numbers so we can cut down on the delay.  Ever thought about going after work? I can be at the Hi-way H or exit 199 I think it is. This is the wrightcity west exit and the McDonalds is at. Anyway I can be there by say 3:15. When do you think you could be there? Meet up and go from there to the range for  a few hours while the wifes cook dinner. How does that sound some evening. Thus we do now have to schedule a weekend when there is not a match on the long range, range.

All I will be shooting is my 308. Dont have a lot right now. Sold my AR's when I decided it was too expensive to burn 30 round mags all the time. Now I prefer the more methodical precision shooting. Really enjoying that.

If I buy you some .50 cartridge components will you let me get behind the beast?

guys, lets plan a shoot. I am itching to try one of the local ranges with my 308 bolt.

Thanks a lot MaxPaul. Bench Rest is a super nice range. Will likely be joining shortly.

Now I have to go to work on loading some rounds for 600 yds.

jmt1271, Glad we could on short notice get together today at the range. Had a blast and looks like you did to. Sorry that the Targetcam decided not to play well with us. Got it home and put it on the wall cube and all was good. Got to see if there is something about running it off of the battery or the long cable dropping to much voltage. I did see that it would pan just fine, but the darn iris just was not opening up like it should. Maybe next time.

Dang that was great to meet your FIL again. Didn't put 2 n 2 together. Knew that Al lived down there, but didn't even think of him when you mentioned your FIL lived down there too. Al is a great man that I really respect. Asked if he would invite me over next time you all shoot clays out the back yard if there is room for one more. And you have a great MIL also, love Jan as much as Al.

Lets do thing again some time in the next few weeks, maybe after the 4th.

Agreed. Thanks again for letting me pop off a couple rounds on the .50. I am prepared to join BenchRest, but wondering if I should check out my other local options before pulling the trigger, so to speak. Are there other options close by that I should see? I have heard about Reifschneider (sp?), do you know any details?

Also, if I join BR rifle club, can I take my daughters to shoot, or do they have to join? I wouldnt want to have to pay fees for them since they would only go occasionally. The wife would likely have to pay, at least the $100 for an associate membership, right?

Hi jmt,

Yes I think you should check out Reifschinder (SP?) just so that you have a base of reference. But I can tell you this now, it is a hole, both figuratively and literally. Some of the roads are dirt and if it has rained recently you best be ready to navagate mud roads. The shooting area is down in a hole and they threw down large gravel so the walking down is some what rough. The benches are at lease nice, but no protection from the sun. Bathroom are like ones you will find in a park and I do not think that they have sinks to wash your hands. I think the max range might, and I say might be 100 yrds if that.

As for membership at BRRC, If your wife will only come out shooting with you, and only a few times a year. I would not get her membership, unless she wants to go by herself now and then. And the kids I would not even begin to get them any kind of membership. You will not be able to shoot when they are shooting because you will need to supervise them.

When do you want to go to Reifschinder? I will take you there, but it might be a few weeks. Seems we are suppose to be getting rain all week.

Hey, just because you join. Don't forget to invite me to go shooting. As I will call and see if you are free to go out shooting. I realize that sometimes you wont be available and I might not be either, but lets see if we can meet up from time to time..

One thing I do like about Reifschinder is that you can go out and shoot as fast as you want. I was out there about 2 or 3 months ago. Some one had left a 1 liter soda bottle and I was popping it all over the range. Love to see it pop up in the air and spin.

Later

P.S. Got the targetcam working. Due to the length of the wire, I was dropping to much voltage and the darn iris didn't like the loss of 1 volt. Cut off about 40% of length and now just about .4 volt drop and iris is go to go now.
