Anyone know of any place around the KC area that ever has any retro AR goodies? Dang retro BRD is a terrible thing.....

You're better off looking here on the Equipment Exchange.  Denny's occasionally has some older AR parts lying around but their prices are generally laughable.

Don't Sugar Coat it Duke.  Tell us how it is.

Sometimes they are out of reason, but if you get to know them they get reasonable.  For the most part Duke is correct.  If you live close to them, it may be worth the time and effort.  If not, EE it is.

I've got a beatup pair of triangles you can have, other than that, you probably aren't going to find anything local in a store.

BaNo, thanks for the offer on the handguards, but I am pretty well set on triangle handguards.....for the next several builds..... Looks like I'll keep my eyes on the EE, been in Denny's a few times, I like the shop, but didn't like the way ammo I bought one day from one worker went up over $2 a box the next day when I went back buying from a different worker. I guess its cause the first day I had on my old nasty work clothes and the next day I was enroute to a nice dinner and stopped by to pick up more ammo in my nice clothes and leather jacket. On another occasion I went in there in search of an upper for a precision build. They had a nice 24" bull barreled upper and I asked if I could see it. I looked it over and decided that it was going home with me. However, after standing there holding the damn thing for almost an hour at the counter (the shop wasn't even busy) and no one offering to help me, I got rather annoyed and just laid it on the counter and walked out. Needless to say after lugging that thing for that long I decided against a 24" bull upper...Guess they don't need the money. Nothing against Denny, I hear he is a great guy. But, I don't appreciate getting bent over and screwed by one of the workers that seemed to generally be a freaking ass with a piss poor attitude I made up my mind from now on if dealing with his shop I will deal with him directly or take my hard earned cash elsewhere.

chain-smoking-ass-hole has been the dominant counter personality every time I've been in there.  Only reason I go is if I'm in the area, and just to look cause there are no deals to be found there.

Denny is a nice guy and easy to business with but he sold the retail shop several years ago. He owns  the class 3 and internet (mail order) side so don't lose any sleep over the storefront dudes attitudes.

I used to just a couple years back get some decent deals there, maybe it is just Ya'll's attitudes? Got several things there cheaper than I could find them anywhere else...

Course I did (and that is the sole reason I will never set foot in that store again) get ROYALLY screwed on a transfer even though it was a gun they couldn't even get!!!
I ASKED them before I ordered it and they still charged me their BS fee to do the transfer! Not just the $20 but the % on top of that to get the thing transferred!!!

Denny's is smoke free now, other than that the rest remains true .

Chuck owns the retail store front and has for quite a few years. Denny is still in the same building but has nothing to do with "up front".

So, can you walk into the shop and speak with Denny or does he do internet only? I am wanting to talk with him about doing some barrel work for a GAU-5/A/A retro build. If it is going to be one of the other guys in the shop I have to speak with I'll just get ahold of ADCO or 45Bravo to do the work.

I'd call Denny on the phone, it's  hard to catch him in the shop.

Can somebody explain the difference between mottled and shiny retro furniture? Different models, years, etc...?

Yes
First was brownish red.
Then was browish red painted OD
Then was mottled
Then was mottled painted black
Then was black
Then was black painted gaybrown
Then was gaybrown

From what I gather, mottled furniture came right after the original brown furniture (the 601 had brown furniture painted green). The mottled stuff looks kinda black with brownish specs all over it. Sometimes it looks more brown with black specs all over it. It started life as black, but after use the dye wore off the fiberglass and it turned mottled. As far as shiny and dull furniture, it seems that it all started out dull. Over time it turns shiny from use as cleaning and carrying it eventually wears the dull texture off and kinda buffs it to a nice shine. You can make some nice shiny furniture out of dull furniture by wet sanding it with 2500 grit and then buffing with some red rouge. To really shine it up hit it with a couple coats of a hard floor paste wax.
