| If a guy were to buy a lot of once fired brass from the .gov, how easy do you think it would be to get a distributor to buy the brass from you for resale? I would scrap the cases that nobody can or will use and just sell the 5.56 and 7.62. any answers appreciated. |

If the .gov agency is DOD, they've declared that all such brass purchases thru DRMO need to be crushed (demilled). I've seen several discussions on other boards about buying cheap 5.56 brass from DOD and selling it for a quick profit. I don't believe it worked out for those posting, due to the demil requirement. Now if it's a non DOD .gov type agency, it might work out well. Who would buy it? can't help, sorry. |

I don't realy have any help for you on this topic, but I was thinking that it would be awfully nice of you to give us fellow arfcommers a chance to buy some of it if we so desired... I'd be willing to take a few thousand off your hands if the price was right. Rick |

Exactly, bypass the distributor and sell it yourself-if you have storage you may have neccessary infrastructure to just sell it yourself; all you'd need for advertising is a thread in the GD (once us hometown folks got our fill ....by the way, I'd be in for a couple thousand 7.62 & 5.56 |
| If I do this, I'd want $50/k shipped for 5.56 and $60/k shipped for 7.62 brass. I'd even sell it a little cheaper if you wanna come get it. I'll be sure to let you all know if I decide to do this. I'd have to have a little committment because this is gonna be about 20k+ for me to do. If I did, I'd scrap the crap brass and sell the good brass for a couple weeks and if I couldn't find a buyer for the rest of it, haul it to a scrap yard. BTW there is about 650k of 5.56 brass in 5 tons. The storage is mostly outside, but you have to clean and process the brass anyway, so who cares. The auction also says there is a lot of it in ammo cans so those would be included in whatever sale is made. I'm in Washington and the discount would be 10/k for pickup. Like I said, I'll let you all know if I do this. |
| There is 3000# or so of 9mm brass and some BMG. The biggest obsticle right now is MRS. mustangracer, she's scared about getting that much money and losing it, but I'm trying. I tried to tell her that I can't lose money if it is bought at the right price, but she's not seeing that part because it is soooooooo much money to start. |

Well fellas, after MUCH HEATED deliberation with mrs. mustangracer, it was decided that i won't be doing this after all if I still want a wife. I really had my hopes up that I could make a few bucks, but oh well. Sorry to get all your hopes up. Here is this link. cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?id=1328823&convertTo=USD I figured it out, the auction is for 205xx# including skids, ammo boxes and such. I took off 2500# for packaging figuring somewhere in the neighborhood of 18k# of scrap worth $27k. I also worked out the numbers where you could sort it and sell it in 1k lots w/ 5.56 and 7.62 and make that much just off that and scrap the 9mm, 50bmg and 20mm cases for about another 10k. This auction from what I found by making phone calls will go for about a dollar a pound. so this could be a very profitable venture. I called quite a few scrap yards and got a wide range of prices from .70/# to 1.50/#. I also talked to the buyer from grafs and they would only pay about $20/k for 5.56 and 7.62. @1.50/# it is worth more in scrap value than selling it to them, roughly 15#/k of 5.56 and I guessed @ 25#/k of 7.62. I also checked on freight for this. Roadway said from pickup point to their terminal in STL and you pick it up from there it would be $900 and to deliver it to a residence where I would have taken it it would have been $2200. Expensive but doable and still making money. Maybe someone else who is a little better off than me financially here in MO will do this, I'd be glad to offer my research info to them. |
