I would like to purchase an EOTECH for m4 M4 but I'm not really sure what will work best for me.  Hopefully I will be carring this firearm in the trunk of my KCPD car in about a year.  It will be used for on the job only and I want to know what EOTECHs you guys have and what you all suggest.  Model numbeers would be helpfull.  Thanks Brandon

I kinda like saving some cash and buying a Bushnell Holosight.  But if you're going for something for use with NV then you will need a Eotech specific model for such.

If you are never going to use night vision, I'd go with the 512.  With lithium AAs, battery life is 1200 hrs.  I also like the new 553.  It uses CR123s, just like your Surefire or Streamlight duty light, so you have a common battery.  With a magnifier, it is awesome.

I got the 512, and it works great, and it has plenty of battery life.  The only other quality sighting system would be an Aimpoint (much better battery life), but I think that they are over priced.  The Eotech works (IMHO) better for close quarters, and that's what I have on my SBR that I built for close quarters.  If your going to be an "LEO" then I'd get the 512, but CMMG makes some very good points about the 553.

Have you already been through the whole employment process?Which patrol division are you at? And to answer you question the 512 is very good. any of the mentioned models are excellent. The difference between the models is basicly which kind of battery you want to use and wether you need to use it with night vision.

I have a 512 on my RRA Elite Tactical.  Love it.  I have the AA model which is nice for the since the batteries are cheap.  However, the AA model takes up at least an extra inch on your rail.  So if you're trying to put a magnifier plus a rear BIUS, you may run out of room or not get the spacing the way you like it.

Plus, I replace alkaline batteries about every six months in important stuff, whereas the lithium ones last forever without any drain.

In retrospect, I wish I would have bought the CR123 model.  $2-3 a piece for batteries, but it would have been worth it.
