I attended the AK build party in Sedalia, put on by Andrew, a couple weeks ago. This was my first time attempting to build an AK. There were about 10 people there, 1 press, and 2 drill presses. Needless to say, there wasn't enough equipment to get everyone's rifles done in one day. Last night I finally finished my rifle! We took it out after the barrel was pressed in for test firing and shot 20 rounds (only mag I had was a 20) through it. The results? No malfunctions! Ohh it is so nice to create something yourself and have it actually function the way it should! I just want to say thank you to Andrew for having the build party and everyone else who attended. Everyone was very helpful and fun to bullshit with. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g200/moteggy/MyFirstAK.jpg Details: Rommy G kit AK-builder flat |

It's an AK-builder flat. As far as compliance parts: piston, receiver, g2, and compensator. I have a saw pistol grip too, but I didn't have it with me to take the pic. Andrew; me and Jesse used the "chill/heat" method. Stuck the barrel in the freezer and heated the trunion. It went in like butter, although we dinged the threads a little because we didn't use enough pennies. The comp still screws on with a little bit of man-strength. ;) |
Ahhh very cool Im glad to here it smoothly bring it by the shop tonight :).
I dunno when do you guys wanna do it again? I have another three kits coming myself, so ill be in the shop on sundays for the next few weeks. As far as an offical build party maybe the 25th???? |

I'm actually quite tempted to do another kit, except this time a pistol build. I definately won't be ready that soon to do another though. Now, if you guys were to do another in a few months I would probably be able to make that. First I have to find out if you can effectively cut/crown a chrome lined barrel. I seem to think that you cannot easily/effectively do that, but I don't know. I want to do a pistol build for a couple reasons. First, it'd be cool. Second, it is cheaper (no compliance parts needed, so $110 for a kit, $10 for receiver flat and $60 for gas....) Actually, after doing the build it is quite tempting to find a couple hunks of steel and machine my own flat bending jig. For rivets I am trying to figure out if I'd be able to do the short rivets with a block of metal and a hammer instead of making a rivet crusher (or I could just do a screw build). Hmm..... Dang you guys, you'll have me turned into an AK-aholic! |
