All I can say is thank you CMMG for putting shotties on the COF's for the next shoot.  The wife has now learned that a tactical shotgun has been added to the list and is emminent.

You all have WAY more experience than I do, so anybody got any recommendations on the first one?  Pump or semi auto?  Things to look for?  Lessons learned from your previous experiences?

I just switched my own M1 Benelli super 90 for the new FN Self Loading Police Shotgun Mk1.  That thing is awesome.  They aren't out in full force yet, but maybe by the shoot, they'll have released more.

Pump vs semi is largely a personal preference and cost issue.  I prefer my Benelli M1S90 to a pump, but that's just me.

A pump is simpler and more straight forward, but nothing's foolproof: a semi can jam, and a pump can be short-stroked.

Whatever you get, get a full length magazine with the maximum capacity for your barrel length.  The less you have to reload a tube mag shotty, the better- whether it's on a course or in a real tactical situation.  Try not to go too overboard with too many add-ons.  Figure out whether you prefer rifle or ghost ring sights berfore you buy your shotgun.

The FN pump and semi tactical shotty's are darn nice guns, and they're available from CMMG.  If I was going to buy a new tactical shotgun, I'd probably go FN.

Karl's Benelli M1S90  is NICE
I'd like to try out a converted Saiga12 10rd mags and faster reloads

How much, and will the CMMG guys lie to my wife for me on what I paid for it?

Is the MK1 model the brand new one?  IE Longer barrel more than the 6 shot capacity?  If so I'm in line for one.  18" barrel is nice but in three gun 6 rounds is short :/

IIRC, it is $849.95.  Pricing isn't totally set yet since they aren't shipping them yet.

I know it's not as 'refined' as the FN, but what about the Mossberg 500 Defender?  Or a Remmy 870?

For a pump, there is nothing wrong with a Mossy, Remmy or a Winny .   The new semi auto FNs are top of the line shotguns for serious gunners and for self defense but the pump guns are classics and will always go bang when you pull the trigger.

I'm thinking of putting up my tactical 870 for sale to help fund a precision rifle build.  You guys can IM me if you are interested.

EDIT:

What the hell, I took some pics and put it up for sale.  Maybe someone will bite, if not I haven't lost anything and I'll keep running the CMMG shotgun COF's with it.

$849??? Geez , i like FN as much as the next guy but it seems like they are real proud there products. Their pricing just seem to me a bit on the high side for everything they make, granted most of its sweet stuff but....I mean correct me if i am wrong but arent there shotguns for the most part winchesters with FN stamped on them?

steps back and put flame suit on

That would be priced with the Benelli M1S90's.  I haven't shot one yet but if it performs as good or better than the Benelli they may be priced right once everyone finds out how well they shoot.

If anyone is looking for a FN pump with the retractable stock or the semi-auto 6+1 18" shotguns, I have one of each that I'm looking to move if someone is looking for a deal.

The new SLP Mark 1 8+1 that CMMG has coming in would make a hell of a nice gun for the shotgun COF.

Not to direct anyone away from CMMG, and for sure I'm NOT recommending impact guns as I've never dealt with them but they list a price of 699 on the FN MK1.  Availability 2-3 weeks.

On the FN line I just got a FNP40 yesterday from an unfortunate guy getting a divorce for $315, its had maybe a box through it and looks brand new, he tossed in a tactical light for it, which I may never use but what the hey.  (Sorry Sub-MG, used price was just TOO good to buy new)

If they can get you one of those for that price, jump on it; you won't hurt my feelings if you save some money for yourself.
