I took a friend of ours to the range at Pigeon Hill on the 3rd since he had never really shot too many rifles.  As a Jamaican, there wasn't much oppertunity to take part in shooting and his last time with a rifle was a civil-war era muzzel-loader.  I figured this would be pretty fun for him and it appears it was just that.

Eyewear was a problem.  Nothing you put on wouldn't fog up in seconds and nothing you rubed on it prevented the fogging.  We both elected to risk it....  I really need something that will prevent fogging but the weather was juicy and it finally rained towards 11:45.  Muggy doesn't quite do it justice.

Yes.... I see the finger, I didn't catch that as I was taking the picture.

Moments before he took an old hard drive to task.  He was quite good with the FAL and loved the Leupold 1.75-6X that's on it.  We also compared the frozen milk jug destructive power of the AR and the FAL.  AR's took 3 shots on average to completely bust the ice up.  The FAL and 150gr SST's would disintegrate the ice and send the plastic into orbit in one shot.

Next up was my Father-in-law's Navy Arms .357 lever gun.  We both liked this one and I have to admit it just felt nice to shoot.  My friend got a kick out of the fact it was so quiet compared to my stuff.  He also liked the fact that plinking targets lasted longer.  The ice jugs would take 6 or more hits from the .38's we were shooting in it.  The hard drives would take quite a few before they fell apart.

Finally, a little foul weather time with the AR15.  He predictably liked this one (he liked the FAL better) and he started to get the hang of it pretty quick.  Next time he's out I need to help him with his stance, but for now I wanted him to have fun with it.  We packed up right after this as the rain was getting heavy.

I like shooting soooooooo much more than fireworks.  He had a great time and I enjoyed letting him shoot them.  We Couldn't talk my FIL into coming but we enjoyed his coyboy rifle quite a bit.  Fun day.

How is the FAL trigger doing?  Last time I asked you hadn't put too many rounds through the FAL since I worked on it.

Grunteled, just curious, is that Navy Arms .357 a Winchester 92 Stainless Rifle octagonal barrel model?  How's the fit and finish on that gun?

Always to see new folk getting introduced to the sport. You think you might be able to convince him to come to one of our MoDCC meets?
BTW, look at that grin, it does look like he is having the time of his life.

If so that is a Rossi Puma model (Sans stupid rinkydink safety...) the new Puma does not have that Safety... I have a Puma with the safety in 45 colt and the fit and fin is very nice... Mine is Octagon and Blued/CCH... and I like it a lot... Mine is also a rifle not the carbine model.

He's from Virginia so he doesn't get into the area very often.  He married the Russian exchange student my in-laws hosted for several years.  She's now working here in the states and is just about to get permanent residency.  He's a great guy, funny, very easy going, energetic as well.  I do believe that grin is genuine.  Last time I took him pistol shooting and he always is up for a range trip when he comes in town now.  He jumped at the chance to take my rifles for a spin.

Duke:  That trigger is much nicer.  I recently also changed the springs with a Falcon Arms Trigger Pull Reduction set and it's certainly no jewel trigger but I'd estimate it's now lighter than the stock AR and much less gritty than it used to be after your trigger work.  Pretty predictible break now.  It's a much nicer gun to shoot now and my finger doesn't feel tired after 100 rounds like it used to.

I'm not sure on the details of the lever gun.  It does have an octagonal barrel, and no safety that I saw.  Very simple, point, click, bang, lever and repeat.  It's a stainless barrel.  I'll have to ask my FIL about the exact model.

We went out on the 4th also.

That last picture is great.

I went shooting with Duke on Monday at one of our other partners place and with my Brother In Law on Tuesday Morning at Pigeon hill, had a blast so to speak! Duke can elaborate on that if he desires.....

Erik, Nick, Ben, and I went shooting on Monday as well.  I fired my new C&R Enfield No1Mk4* and BRNO 98K (with winter trigger guard).    I also sighted in the Kobra on my new MCA Romanian AK, which was producing suprisingly tight groups when you consider the following two facts:

1 It is an AK
2 I was doing the shooting

I was putting the shots in about a grapefruit (or maybe cantaloupe) sized grouping at 50 yds.  (see points 1 and 2 above)

I also went out shooting Monday and ran into Erik, Nick, Ben. and Karl at the Bench rest rifle club. Looks like the lads where having a great time and I was working on my Long range shooting. Much more work needed for sure but I am also doing some development work so this messes with things a bit.  Hey any time at the range is a good time! And it is always good to run into people of like mind. Good to have seen ya lads....

Yeah, it was nice to see you out at Benchrest on Monday.  I'm glad I was able to remember your name.  I knew you looked familiar, and then I remembered seeing you out at the last CMMG shoot.

I just practiced a bit with my AR and my P228, but it was a good day at the range.  It had been quite a while since I'd taken the AR to the range, and I only recently got the P228 so that was only the 3rd time I've been able to shoot it.
