I've heard rumors about draconic gungrabbin' policies practiced by the St. Louis metro police. As I often drive through there, I finally called the cop-shop there and just asked the policeperson that answered. She was pretty negative and basically told me that if I was driving through "Da Loo" and got pulled over while in possession of a firearm that I would go to jail and my guns would be taken from me. I then called the Highway Patrol Troop(?ABCDEFG?--I forget which one) and the nice trooper said that he'd heard nothing of it and that the State Troopers did nothing of the sort in the metro area. My brother was a federal parole officer in St. Louis a while back and he hasn't heard anything about anti second amendment practices in force in St. Louis. Sooooooooo, does anyone know anything concrete about this? |

I work in St Louis. About 8-10 years ago I had two guns stolen out of my car. six months or so later I got a call from the BATF asking me about the disposition of one of them. I told them how it had been stolen and reported to the STLPD. The law states the gun was to be returned to me since it was stolen property. I never saw it. I am very sure the extreme leftist STLPD decided to keep it and of course toss the law out the window. Yes it happened downtown STL, two blocks from union station. I still have the police report number etc. But what the hell can I do without screwing myself in the process. Yes they are antigun, check the poll results from april 1999 for prop B, concealed weapons amendment. |

Hate to open old wounds, but I'm still pi***d and I am convinced Prop B, i.e. CCW, was a fixed election, sponsored and directed from the Governors'(Carnahan) office. The way I had figured it, to get the kind of numbers out of the St.Louis area there would have had to been a 100% voter turn out and as all elections show there is never that kind of response I don't care what's being voted on. The proposition was passing fairly well until the computers went "down" about 10:30pm and when they came back online CCW was behind. hmmmmm. Oh well there's always tomorrow. Rick |

If you transport your guns through St. Louis City, they need to be unloaded and in a closed container that is not readily accessible. The ammunition should be separated from the firearm. Basically, if everything is out of easy reach from the driver's seat, you're okay. This is pretty much the "rule" for transport anywhere in Missouri, unless you are carrying openly. If you're carrying concealed and get caught, you're screwed. You'd be in a better position with the gun on the dash, in clear view, that way you are only brandishing the gun. The Prop B vote was defeated in - - the major metro areas; KC, St. Louis, and Springfield, - in towns with state colleges; Kirksville, Marysville, and Cape, and - in one of the south central counties along the Arkansas border; I don't remember if it was Taney, Stone, or Oregon county (or it could have been one of the nearby counties). Debra Carnahan was the opposition lead, brought in at the last minute to marshall a sympathetic Democratic opposition. The current govenor is an avowed opponent to concealed carry in Missouri, and I don't think the state houses are anywhere near veto proof - but it doesn't hurt to pound on them occasionally to resubmit the legislation. The next time, there will not be a referendum, the legislature will take care of it. |
Shooooot! I was almost certain that it was 50/50 in Springfield--though I knew it got pummeled in KC and (maybe)Columbia(?) Edited to say: Prop B won in 110 out of 114 counties--and won BIG in 105 of thoses; yet we still lost the vote and the cursed liberals have been gloating ever since of their "resounding" victory over CCW in Missouri when it was actually veeeeery close (48.3%for to 51.7%anti). Taking this vote to the ballot was a huge mistake, as we have a fairly pro-gun legislature and CCW whould have passed if we'd used normal legislative procedures(like it was done in 31 other states-MO, IIRC, was the first state to put it on the ballot) ...now every time it'll come up, some BigCityDemocraticDufus is gonna whine that "but, but...the people have already spoken..." and the quotes will be splattered all over the Post-Dispatch and the Star.... |

Go here for all of the stats of the election. BTW, it's Robin Carnahan, the X-governor's daughter. MoCCW.Org |

Didn't that "Home Rule" business in St.Louis pass recently? Seems like if they can decide their own policies without input from the rest of the state they shouldn't be allowed to dictate statewide policy ie. if the city votes CCW down it doesn't go against the whole state. Yeah, I know, fat chance. I live in St.Louis County and I agree with what AeroE said about transporting firearms, that is my understanding of the laws also. I've been pulled over for speeding with cased rifles on the passenger side of my truck and they weren't even mentioned. That was in Bridgeton city limits. |
