I drove through the shopping center in Hoover today which houses The Gun Cellar, and as I drove past I noticed their lights were off.  Circled around and went past again, this time noticing a sign on the door stating they were moving to Moody effective March 1.  Ya'  think Hoover Tactical had an influence on the move?  The Gun Cellar has been in Hoover more than 30 years in a few different locations.  As an aside, Tom Pinion, who started the business many years ago from his home in Bluff Park, and transferred ownership to his daughter a few years ago, now suffers from dementia.

It had to be difficult going up against Mark's and Hoover Tactical, with Academy and Wal-Mart just down the road.

Of course, the traditional (good ole boy) gun store feel and crappy merchandising of their wares didn't help.  Getting caught in a time warp is bad for any business.

Sorry to hear that about Tom.

Maybe he will do better with a new customer base since he hasn't had the chance to be a dick to them yet.

Sad to hear about Tom I liked doing business with him. Bought a lot of guns from him back in the day

htf was just the last nail in the coffin. the GC has been pretty much out of business for years. tom damn near killed it himself before he gave it up.

Yep.

Took a look shortly after HTF opened in the original location, GC had set up a couch and some TVs, likely trying to copy HTF.

Went about a month ago and the place looked like a fire sale, with about 1/4 the stock I am used to seeing, and NO business.

A few of the counter guys were amusing, but they always had prices out of line with the competition, IMO.
