trussville sitrep:
deerfoot pkwy that connects old Springville rd and U.S. 11 was shut down except to EMS, PD as of 0400. i got home from work at 0500. no idea what it looks like now. sporadic damge in and around Springville, Argo and Centerpoint Pkwy got some good damage..subdivisions got the worst of it seems: Happy Valley, Steeple chase, Polo Downs George brook, Pilgrims Rest. i don't know where these are specifically, but they are north of my location near Jefferson/St. Clair county line. my Guard unit never got activated but apprently some aviation units migt have been deployed to asses damage |

i spent the day in chalkville today on standby with our cadavour dog. thank god they didn't need us, they got hit HARD. i am amazed there were only 2 deaths in this storm. all in our area were accounted for in our area by 2pm.
one interesting difference is we saw not one person coming to the command center for freebies or supplies and we heard no reports of security issues in our section. the only real issue we had was morons trying t drive through looking at the area. it took us almost 2 hours to get from the warrior area to chalkville. not because of debris but because of traffic. |

I spent part of the afternoon in Pilgrim's Rest delivering a generator and a couple of gas cans to a friend. The top of his two story house had been blown off and they had a tree in the living room. He and his family were going to spend the night at the house so that they could keep potential looters away. It looks a lot like Pratt City. Unbelievable. No damage in Moody and my office in Trussville is okay. Hope you guys are all well. Take care. |

Thank you I appreciate it. We were prepared enough to be ok for this. The wife even suggested we add to some of our preps. She would like some "Walkie talkies" her phone service (Verizon) craped out but mine (AT&T go figure) worked fine. And some helmets to help protect against head injury. New cell phone chargers that don't require house power. I used my press credentials again and started at 4:30 with pictures and helping people out. Would you guys like me to post them. And some of the observations from documenting this and last years events. Alabama Tornado Damage Jan 23rd |

Prayers for all you guys that were hit by this storm. As an old Trussville resident my heart goes out for you.
I remember the storms that hit center point in the early 1970's. I had several friends I went to high school with who's homes were destroyed. Keep your spirits up. |

ajames. start a new thread on the pics and i will tack it.
if you need help with radio ear let me know. our group is currently putting together coms and i can save you a lot of research time. just shoot me an IM when you have time and we can talk. ham radio is your best option for dependable radios and can be had fairly inexpensively. helmets are also a good idea. the majority of secondary fatalities in pleasent grove came from head trauma. something as simple a cheap bike helment in the storm shelter would have prevent a lot of deaths. after reading the reports on that i bought a couple of the pt-alphas. they work well with my night vision and also having them for this stuff comes in handy as well during recovery work. |
