Read on another board that Madison Guns closed it's last location recently.  Is anyone surprised?

that was the first store I tried to visit when i moved to Huntsville but i guess the parkway location had been closed for some time by then, I had only heard bad things anyways.  After some research I found larrys and im usually very happy with my visits there, the biggest problem is fitting in the door with the amount of people shopping there.  Its never a good thing when physical store location option closes and takes away choices from us but maybe the store closing will make someone else try to open a store in the market, i sure missing having all the options when purchasing a firearm that i had when i lived in birmingham.  I did hear the citys getting an academy so that should get gander mtn to straighten up and work on there problems.

I know Sports Authority is next to Bridge Street. Is Academy putting a store in there as well?

No problem here. Academy seems to have better gun/ammo deals and I was getting a bit excited.

I think it would be very hard for any newcomers to compete with Larry's in N. Ala.

Drive down to B'ham on a gunshow weekend and hit up both Hoover Tactical and Southeastern Firearms

Fixed that for ya ...

My brother and I both had separate bad experiences at SE.  Before that, I had bought several firearms from them and liked the selection.  The owner's kids were buttholes, one of them a caricature of the worst gunstore know-it-all I have ever experienced.

I like HTF but they do not come close to the firearm inventory that Larry's has and cannot touch Silent Industries NFA prices.............  They do have a lot of accessories though.

i am from hoover and have heard very good things about htf, i my grandmother has even mentioned the good PR that they have given to the gun industry including educating and training firearms, that said ive heard its not the place to buy from but i dont know from first hand experience

i really lilke larrys but  when i go to my hometown hoover the order of stores is as follows with a quick reason why

gun cellar–– they seem happy to spend time with potential customers and urge customers to research before buying even at risk to the sale they want happy repeats
academy–– there prices and selection are pretty good
marks outdoors–– there honestly kind of stuck up acting and i have witnessed them give different prices and attitudes from the same employees to different customers so i set my items down
woods and water––tuscaloosa––great selection hit and miss on staff, decent prices

my favorite store in all of alabama is a very small shop just outside of tuscaloosa, it doesnt even have a name on the building(or didnt when i was last there 1and half years back), a-1 gunsmithing i think, they have given a step above service and information than any store i have set foot in, others are good to me they were the best, i ve seen them handle everyone from a 18 year old kid with a 22 to a lawyer with a high dollar collection of sporting shotguns, and muesem quality m1 garands

sorry to get way off topic, i need to try to get in htf ive heard there new range will be a great site to see

I just noticed MGA was closed yesterday. I work across Drake from there. The first time I went in there they were pricks and I swore not to go back. But months later a friend insisted on going to check them out and they were great guys. I compared prices between them and Larrys and they were slightly more expensive, but I couldnt move in Larry's and it literally took 10 minutes to get someone to help me. Ultimately I bought my XD .40 from MGA and took a safety class there as well. They were really nice guys then, too.

Headed to Larrys this morning - NOT looking forward to parking :(

Larry's has one of the best inventories around. They tend to be more reasonable in prices, as well. HTF is neat and new...but they have lesser inventory and their prices ... well, let's just say I understand it costs a lot to do business in Hoover.....

ive also learned my experience at larrys varies on what day of the week it is,
if i take a later lunch on a tues wed or Thursday i can get great service, they are overwhelmed on fridays, sats. and mondays so i dont go there those days
they get a very large lunch crowd which is hard to complain about because that fuels there large inventory and competitive prices
