I have to teach a class in Demopolis next week –– I'll just be there overnight and one full day, then home. Any gun shops in the area I should check out? Any particularly good local eating spots for the one dinner I will eat there on my own, or should I just stick with the chains? |
| i live in demopolis. if you want dinner company, let me know. Willingham's Sports on hwy 80 is the best gun shop in town, but it caters more to the hunting crowd, although he usually has a few ARs. there's a pawn shop downtown, but don't expect much. i know a guy in livingston that has a collection out of most people's dreams, but he's pretty guarded with it, as would i be. Red Barn, Mr. G's, El Ranchero, La Gran Fiesta, Smokin' Jack's are pretty much the local dives. McD's, Taco Bell, Penn's, Hardee's, Subway, and Jack's are the chains. Dominoe's and Pizza Hut are also here. let me know if you need more local info or help. i'll be off the boat until next tuesday. |

My travel schedule got messed up and I was short on time anyway. I just grabbed pizza on my way into Demopolis last night (Red Barn was closed, reopening tonight –– bad timing, that). Taught a class at DPD all day today and one of the officers treated me to lunch downtown at a place called Napolean's (good food). Then, on my way down to Mobile tonight (early meeting down here in the AM), I stopped off in Thomasville and ate at David's Catfish. All-you-can-eat catfish filets, hushpuppies, slaw, and cheese grits... I tell you, I hurt myself there! Finally headed back home tomorrow after my meeting down here and I shouldn't have to travel anymore for a few weeks –– IIRC I'm slated to present at a conference at UA in early August. |
