do they provide/offer weapons training?? No. It's mostly a disaster relief program. http://www.sdf.alabama.gov/ Would I be able to take training at my own expense that are generally restricted to LE/MIL only or are there only certain places that would allow me... I don't know if they would consider a member of ASDF a Reservist or not |

Yes it was at their own expense. |

Iirc. Preacher Tom is member, don't recall his screen name off hand. The cool thing about it is being a member allows you to take LE related courses. Ie, sniper school, swat school at the LE price. These courses would be offered by what company or department? NALETC,etc? |

I live maybe 10 minutes from there. |

Spoke with Calvin today, really nice fellow and very helpful. Referred me to another gentleman who I spoke to for a while and then he referred me to a guy in my area. Still waiting to hear from him though.
ETA: Looks like when I do get in contact with him I'll be going to 102nd Battalion in Gadsden. |

Same here. I have called, been told I will be called back or emailed, and have yet to hear jack shit in return. I have even sent emails to the guy who was going to contact me, or so I thought. I give up on it... Joining my local police reserves and calling that good enough. I thought that at least one person on this topic would have heard something by now.... |

Hi Guys....I was a member of the ASDF for 5 years and left as a LTC.
Ask your questions here or IM me..... I am in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary on the Redstone Arsenal now. I like this better than the ASDF. When the ASDF called up 83 of my troops for Hurricane Katrina and did not pay them I left. I refuse to be part of an organization that lies to its troops. At one time I commanded almost 200 people and that dwindled down to the 60's after they were stiffed. I would recommend another organization than the ASDF..... To put it plainly......It is now a force basically in limbo. The State does very little to support you and will take advantage of you. Sorry to disappoint....it is a very poorly run old vets club now. And it's not that I have a problem with that, but that's what it is now. The USCGAUX is everything I wish the ASDF was!!! You are not even allowed on a military base in uniform with the ASDF. POSTSCRIPT; THE ASDF IS NOT ALLOWED WEAPONS!!!! That popped somebodies balloon...SORRY |

At least with my local PD reserves I can carry a weapon and get most of the training that I wanted for little / no cost. |
