I remember a while back where somebody mentioned an effort to change the AL law on SBR/SBS and was wondering if anybody knew what the status and time frame on the changes might be. I ask because I'm in the middle of a build right now and what I really want is a 11.5" or 12.5" SBR. If the timeframe for the changes is relatively short I'll just wait. If its going to be a while, I'll just do the build on a 16" barrel and swap it out later... |
There's no way to know for sure what the time frame, if any, will be. It has been proposed in different ways in several past legislative sessions and never seen the light of day. I have heard (unofficially, of course) that some of the past sponsors/supporters are not willing to push it again just yet (other priorities), but I haven't heard that about ALL of them and there's always the possibility of a new champion stepping forward (I'm trying to do a little quiet arm-twisting in that regard myself, but it ain't time to talk about it publicly yet). Short answer, sadly, is don't count on it any time soon.  (Yes, MANY of us here would love to have registered SBRs/SBSs...) |
