Last night around 9:30 my girlfriend and I decided to go on a little drive to Tupelo for no real reason at all. She goes to school in Columbus, so it took as an hour or so to get there. We stopped at Aberdeen to look at the lock and dam. She had never seen one, and despite it being dark, she figured out how it worked. Then, once in Tupelo we hopped off on the Main Street exit. I wanted to show her the cool meteorite. After that, we decided to find some food. IHop on N Gloster hit the spot. Then we headed back to Columbus. I think it's a nice town for the most part. Besides the car museum, what's worth checking out on a nice weekend? Any decent gun shops to check out? |
| I have not been around Tupelo much since high school (about 10 years), but my wife's family is still there so we do get back occasionally. They have Hunters Haven in two different locations as far as gun shops but they are high on their prices. They have a Dicks sporting goods coming to the mall soon, and it is rumored to be getting a Gander Mountain. It is a nice town to live in, but not really alot to do as far as a getaway weekend trip. |
| If you like Elvis, you can go see his birthplace. Like you said the car museum is ok. I have been wanting to go the the buffalo park out by the airport. I have some friends that go to a state park not too far from Tupelo. The natchez trace comes through Tupelo. My wife and I like to ride my motorcycle up the trace to tupelo when it is warm. That is all that comes to mind right now. |

Gander Mtn= The meteroite is a stony one that fell like 10 miles outside of town in 1870, IIRC...It's pretty cool. About the size of a toilet bowl. I want to go to the buffalo park! I think my girlfriend might enjoy that too, she loves animals. |

If you are there during the day, you should go by Tupelo Weaponry. It is on the same street as the Car Museum by the BancorpSouth Center. That guy has some nice AR's, 1911's, and Glock's. I grew up about 20 minutes from there, so I know the town very well. Where is the meteorite at in Tupelo? There is not much else to do there. |
Sweet, I just may have to check that out. The meteorite is on Main Street. I forgot what business it's outside of, but it's on the opposite corner from the old hardware store. Same side of the road as the hardware store, just before it, if that makes any sense. |
Is it between Tupelo Hardware and the railroad tracks? |
Yes. |
|
seriously, if you're interested in the War between the States, about 15 miles from Tupelo is Brice's Cross Roads |
| Mitch's Gun Shop has updated his prices on ammo. The sticker might not be updated, but when you check out he charges you the current price instead of the sticker price. Watch out if he does not have a price on something, he will ream you on the price! Also his customer service sucks! I have walked in with money in hand to buy a gun, and after 30 min of waiting and trying to get someone to help me I left. By the way I was one of only two customers in the store. As soon as I got to the truck, then someone runs out the door trying to help me. Needless to say, I do not shop there anymore. |
I also showed her at ~10:00 pm....It wasn't a planned thing, it was completely spontaneous. Me- "Hey baby, wanna go see that lock and dam?" as we were passing the sign. That also basically describes the entire trip. |
Tupelo Custom Weaponry, he doesn't have alot of stock but he can get what you want and he's a good smith. Mr. Mingo is a funny guy; I'll have to tell you stories about a phone coversation he had while Calvin and I were in the store. One memorable quote was "I'll stop your ass if you glass me with your rifle" That was to the guy that was asking some retarded questions (on the phone). I think he lost a sale ![]() |
