In today's world, I do not know if it is worth it.

1)  An order of expungement will not change what comes up on the FBI DB from a NICS check.

2)  An expungement will not stop internet searches showing ones criminal history.    That history goes in a lot of directions.    A lot that is done for profit.   A lot of that is not under the control of the state government.   There are people out there who have arrest from 15 - 20 years back, with no convictions, and court orders for "all evidence, both physical and electronic to be destroyed", who still show up on the most basic of Yahoo and Google home page searches with a criminal history.  Everyday, more and more historical data is dumped into the public purview.

Such MIGHT be of value for very specific employment considerations.

You don't need an attorney, it is free and easy. Call the clerk of courts in the county the arrest happened, tell them you are looking to get a record expunged. They will check the criteria to make sure you meet it for expungement ( a certain time period has to have passes and only certain types of charges can be expunged). They will email you a form that you fill out with a bunch of information about yourself and the charges you get that notarized then mail or take it in person to the clerk of courts. After its turned in it takes about 2 months then its gone, unless it was a pretty serious charge then a judge can make you appear to state your appeal in person.

@treetop

looks like you can actually get the forms here now
