Yes, it is me again with the silly gun questions. Getting closer to that time when we will be moving. After my questions earlier about the LTCH and how that works in Indiana (disappointed, but will deal), I thought of another one. My family competes in USPSA and 3 Gun (myself and 2 boys, 12 and 14, my wife now and then). So, we move to the state, and there is that lag before we get our permits. Can we compete during that time? I believe we will have to do the asinine locked container bit to get to/from the range, but will we be denied to shoot at the range? I ask since I noticed that a number of the ranges require you to have a permit to be a member. It sure would be a bummer to miss a shooting season, although I suppose we could just go compete in the surrounding states such as Michigan and Ohio. Thanks. -Corn

While you will have a little bit of a wait getting you LTC, you will have NO issues hauling your gear to and from matches.
For matches, you will be fine. None of the 5 clubs of shoot matches at require a LTC to compete, in fact as long as you pay your match fees and are safe they are happy to have you attend. As far as actually joining a club/range, if you explain why you don't have your LTC, currently, and have intentions on getting it, they will work with you. Welcome to the state, hope to see you at a match! |
| We are moving to the NE part of the state around Angola. We expect to be there mid to late May; but that is not set in stone yet. Sadly, that is just when the season here gets going, and I really don't want the boys to miss an entire season. When you are 12 and 14, that can seem like a LONG time. They are both seasoned competitors now, with 5 and 3 years respectively, 2 of those in 3 Gun. I would like to get there before the heat really kicks in. We don't do well in heat and humidity, so we have some adjustment in that department. At 20 degrees here with the sun we break out the shorts and t-shirts. :D |

3 Gun in Indiana is a fun time. First match was last Sunday.
http://www.indianamultigun.com/ If you look at the map of the clubs your probably an hour or less from Hillside just south of FtWayne and its basically in Huntington. Our club the Wildcat Valley Rifle and Pistol Club is a little under 2 hours from Hillside. Wildcat is in Lafayette area. |
| I do find it interesting how the concept of time to drive to a match can really stop people. Here, 2 hours to get to a match is my average. A couple of the regular matches are 6 hours, and one is a whopping 12 hours away. We just make a weekend camping trip out of the long ones. We just have to get MOVING before we miss the season there. Ours starts this weekend with a USPSA Classifier, and in a couple more a 3 Gun night match (yee haw!!). 3 Gun is fun, at night it is even better :D |
