| I am coming to the great state of Indiana this coming weekend and was wondering what the laws concerning CCW is there. I have a resident permit from SC, which I read is reciprocated there. Any help would be great. Especially where I can and can not carry. |

No schools, federal buildings or riverboats. No gun signs on businesses means they can kick you out and possibly have you arrested for trespassing if you stick around long enough to cause a scene, but carrying itself is not illegal. Can't carry in he courthouses either. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I do not plan on drinking just checking because we can't in SC I may be totally wrong on this, but I think that you must follow the rules of your state of residence when you carry in Indiana. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. ![]() If that were the case then all the Kentucky people wouldn't get in trouble for having guns in glove boxes. |

Per Indiana State Police FAQ's (take it for what it's worth)
I am a permit holder from another state and will be in Indiana in the future. Where and how can I carry my handgun in your state? As stated in the previous question, Indiana honors licenses issued by other states according to the terms thereof. In other words, if you home state requires the weapon be concealed, then the weapon must be concealed in Indiana. If you cannot carry on your person in your vehicle in your home state, then do not do so in Indiana. Indiana does not prohibit Indiana personal protection permit holders from carrying in an establishment that serves or sells alcohol. An Indiana personal protection permit holder may carry on their person in their vehicle. There is currently no statute requiring a person to notify an officer that they are a permit holder and carrying a weapon if they are stopped for a traffic offense; however it is recommended. Indiana does prohibit the carrying of firearms in the secure area of an airport, school property, and gaming boats. Many government buildings prohibit weapons. Look for signs and postings at the entrance of public parks and property. |

Kentucky has a glove box exemption that doesn't require a permit at all. In Indiana, we grant reciprocity to all other state permits but if you live in a state that doesn't require a permit that doesn't grant you exemption from the law here requiring one. While I have been told it is required to follow the home state permit restrictions while carrying in Indiana I've never seen it codified (if anyone has a link I'd appreciate it). I can tell you that I wouldn't bother to look up the state restrictions if dealing with someone with an out of state permit and find it very hard to believe that anyone would actually try to prosecute a person for carring a handgun without a license when that person is abiding by the laws as written in Indiana. That said, you never know. |
