Ex-South Bend police officer Buford sentenced to 6 years in prison
By PABLO ROS
Tribune Staff Writer

HAMMOND — Jamie Buford, a former South Bend police officer, was taken into custody today after a hearing in U.S. District Court, a Tribune reporter at the scene reports.

Buford will have to serve six years in prison for crimes related to wire fraud and carrying a firearm during drug trafficking.

Unlike Andrew Taghon, who was sentenced Wednesday in the same court in on related charges, Buford spoke in court, apologized to his family and said something good would come from this.

“I was an outstanding police officer for 15 years,” he said. “I did a lot of good for my community.”

Federal authorities have yet to decide where Buford will serve his sentence.

Not likely....I doubt they put the ex-cops in general population. I could be wrong but they probably are in a segregated unit for their own safety.
