| Is anybody else seeing the complete lack of ammo on store shelves? Or is this just a South Bend thing? |
|
I have been to several of the Indy area wal*Marts looking for pistol ammo with little luck.
However at the last Indy 1500 gun show there was plenty to go around, the only problem was the price. People who are buying ammo in large amounts are making it hard for the average guy to find any. |

The local shops around here have plenty of .223 & .308.... I just wont pay the $$ !!!
.223 is over $400per 1K and the Radway 7.62 is $499 per 750? on stripper clips and in bandos. Its crazy. I did score some HP & FNM 7.62 at a pawn shop for $.40 per round OTD, they only had a few 100 rounds though. |

.223 is over $400per 1K You were lucky to find old surplus at the creek for $400 per 1K Prices at most gun shops is insane. The reason wally world is always sold out is because they are the cheapest. I got 25 boxes of blazer there this weekend for $9 a box. Olycar15 |

The ammo is out there but is just being sold before you even see it. I couldn't sleep the other night so I went to Wal-Mart (We were out of milk for my cereal). There were about four guys around the ammo area so I went to check it out. The clerks were re-stocking and there were guys there buying it all before it even went on the shelves. I saw one of them leaving as I was going to my car and he had Illinois plates. I don't know if he was crossing the border out of Occupied Obama-Land to re-supply or what he was doing with it but it answered my question as to why Wal-Mart never seems to have ammo any more.
The gun shops I've spoken to say they're getting ammo but the first guy in after they get it seems to buy it up. There is definitely a lot of panic-buying going on right now. |

Don't forget about the panic pricing that some shops are charging. There is plenty of surplus ammo in the stores in my area, it is just extremely over priced. I suppose that is the down side of capitalism. Olycar15 |

not trying to start anything here but wondering if this is true.
Heard from a guy that the government is no longer allowing the commercial sale of "once fired surplus ammo" and is calling in all of their contracts which is what is causing the shortage... which is causing 380 mfg to convert to 9mm.... and so on... |

Not true. Only military brass above .50 caliber is being destroyed. Shortages are the result of heightened consumer demand. |
The local Walmarts around here only have the $14 per box Rem and the 40 rnd HP value packs in .223 stocked, all handgun, .223 and the VPs of .22lr go out as its being brought to the shelves. One WM will not even order any ammo because they never get it!!!
The local shops have mostly stopped case sales and some have box limits.... (2) per caliber etc.... unless its packaged or put together to be sold as 100 rnd packs by the store. |

Walmart in Noblesville had some CCI 22LR this week but no bulk packs of any kind. It also has a limit of six boxes per day. I recently got a box of .380 off a FFL friend of mine for an insane price (what he paid though) but the cost was helped by him buying some extra 9MM from me. I also am making a 9MM for .380 trade next week with a gun shop friend. |

Bloomington:
Wal-Mart - All but wiped out. A few shotgun shells and one box of .357 mag for $40 Dicks Sporting Goods - Wiped out MCSports - Slim pickin's Traildust Surplus - has ammo in stock but limits you to 5 boxes of each kind of ammo. Also about $5 a box over what everyone else is charging. Eagle's Landing - I was lucky enough to find some 7.62x39 there. A bit much at $295/1K, but I found some. That's all that mattered. If there is one thing Monroe County is lacking, that is a good solid gun shop. MC Sports is about as good as it gets here. |
