I live in Jeffersonville, IN, and for the last two years have worked from home, without a vacation or more two days away from the home/home office (self-employed consultant).

Since business is on a decline, and I may soon be looking for work again (love that economy), I've decided to take my first vacation in 5 or 6 years.

Here's what I am looking for:
Between Now and mid-Jan
Cabin
Fireplace
Fire pit
Nice view
Quiet spot
Close to a gun range would be great, haven't been shooting in a long time.
Day hiking a plus
CCW friendly
No more than three hours drive
I wouldn't be upset if it had electric service, but it's not required (might be a nice time to organize the resume').

How about Brown County (Nashville)?

For lodging, look at this very cute log cabin in Brown County.  I actually lived in it for a couple months straight in late 2001, while I was working for the cabin's owner (who's a VERY nice guy, BTW).  I can't vouch for shooting ranges near Nashville, but this is nice, rustic, super-quiet, plenty of hiking nearby, etc., so it fits a lot of your criteria, at least.

I don't know what its regular rental rates are, and they might be salty.  On the other hand, it's no longer their peak fall-foliage season, so they may be willing to wheel and deal on it....

In this economy, I will rent you my shack, on a hill, has a fireplace, stacks of split wood, a backyard firepit, nice view front and back, you can hike into town, CCW welcome, shoot in the backyard and the electric will be turned off by then......

Patoka Lake has some nice cabins that wouldn't be too far of a drive.

If you really want to feel pampered....
There is an incredible hotel in Evansville near Aztar with some funky name like "le Merigot" or something like that.  Unbelievable place for the money...

+1 for Patoka Lake.  I go there with friends once or twice a year.  The floating cabins are awesome.

What are the floating cabins?  We've stayed in some cabins there but I've never heard of any floating cabins.  They sound neat.

Check out cabin rentals in the Smokey Mountains. You can get secluded cabins or scenic cabins (the scenic ones have closer neighbors). Tennessee allows IN CC. There's too many things to do some, most are tourist traps. My wife and I went there for our honeymoon, The Smokey Mountain National park was beautiful. Not sure about gun ranges but I'm sure they have them. They also have The Smokey Mountain Knife Works, it's a knife store the size of Bass Pro or Cabelas. We stayed in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area.

I don't suppose you'd be up for a relaxing week in Gary?

If you wait until the May...and it would be worth it.

1.5 hours (max) drive

- Lincoln State & National Park, Spencer County - Multiple types of camping (cabins/RV's'/roughing sites) fishing, swimming, hiking, ampitheatre and Abe Lincoln's Boyhood Home (with a living farm and museum)

- There is a shooting range (25 & 100 yards) less than 10 miles away in Holland

- (Less than 5 miles from Lincoln State Park Holiday World and Splashin' Safari- theme park & largest water park in Indiana/Kentucky.  Very family friendly.  FREE Unlimited soft drinks with admission (no gimmicks or tricks, they really are free and you serve yourself).  3 wooden roller coasters that have all been rated in the top 10 in the world.  I'm assuming you've been to Kentucky Kingdom and King's Island.  Holiday World will win you over (especially if you have children).  It's the world's oldest theme park (est. 1946) and is family owned and operated.  If you go and are not satisfied I will send you two complimentary tickets.

Yeah, and carry is a must there plus electrical service is rarity as nobody pays their electric bills!
