At one of my spots, along a river bed, they seem to always pop up along the wood line on the open field side. And in the wooded area you just have to really look, move some logs, downed timber, leafs etc.... and look at the base of trees and sometimes right along the paths.

I know that the State Forestry in Martinsville is nice area to hunt 'shrooms too.

Good luck and post some pics,

I'll really miss mushrooms this year while here in the desert. Two years ago I found over 800 on my 11 acres of woods in Washington County. Yes, I said over 800 and no, I won't tell you where. My Father and Brother will get them this year.

Thanks for your service! May you return to double the morels you gathered last year!!!!

Around here the small white ones are popping up pretty good(horse pricks).

As far as where to look near the base of a tree is the best advice I can give you.

Morels have never been grown commercially on a large scale so obviously even the experts can't figure out the best conditions for growth. YMMV

My son and i went fishing this afternoon, plenty of pan fish but no 'shrooms. Other people were there only for mushrooms and they hadnt found any Morels either.

carbine_red,

So true about "where to find them", we mainly concentrate on areas from previous years that have harvested Morels.

Me and my son are gonna go huntin' today at Raccoon Lake.  My dad and I have always found big morels and pecker heads there in the past.

Good luck..... I know a "pecker head" that lives off of Raccoon Lake, nice place, owns multiple lots on a dead end lane.

We found a few of the button heads around the house back by the creek today. Of course the Lab thought they were for him....

Walked through miles of woods by the Dam, but not one mushroom!
Just muddy highways made by the deer!
I can't be going blind!  Maybe after a few more warm days they'll be up?

Ironically, my wife and I were watching Andrew Zimmerns Bizarre Foods and they were in Guangzhou China. This peaked our interest as we were there when we adopted our daughter.

Anyhow, they were bagging up soil and "spores" in plastic bags and then storing them in a "cave" like structure. They grow appox. 16 different mushrooms and Morels was one of the more popular ones. They even had their own restaurant to serve all of the mushroom dishes.

Pretty intersting as they have been doing it for generations. Of course they dont tell or show enough for us to learn their "ancient Chinese secrets"!!!

Update: found 41 between me and my dad in about 30 minutes in the bottom of one spoil. A lot of them are as big as a Dasani water bottle I was carrying. We left quite a few because they were dried out and I found more while turkey hunting but didn't pick because had nothing to put them in.

Just to put it out there, I'm in need of several hundred pounds of morels.  I'm willing to pay $16 per pound if you happen to find a boatload of them.  Please don't try to sell me a pound or 2 here and there.  If you have 50 pounds or better, then we can make a deal.  Please PM me with details.
