| Had better get some freakin' D soon or the playoffs will be more of the same. Peyton can only do so much.He will never be able to "win the big one" if the defense allows 200 yards rushing in the playoffs. |
|
We have one of, if not THE best teams in the NFL. Only one can win it all and every other team has half assed wannabe fans who call their teams chokers. We are seeing what will go down as the best QB to EVER play the game, enjoy it while it lasts. Maybe 4-5 more good years. Maybe a few past that if we are lucky. Too many take it for granted. I have sat in the Hoosier dome thru 3-13 seasons and have seen what a truely bad team looks like. Anyone remember Mike Pagal? Lindy Infante? I really didnt want a new stadium but its going to be great and it WILL bring in lots of revenue for downtown for years in many other uses besides football and when used in conjunction with the new attached convention center. As long as we dont refinance it for 50 years. |
| Up here in NW Indiana, there are a lot of Bears fans. I'm rooting for our Colts & would love to see a Bears/Colts match-up in the Super Bowl. Manning should invoice opposing teams for quarterback lessons. Dungy is a great coach & I'm glad the Colts got him before someone else did. |
|
1 I'm not a half-assed fan because well I really don't root for any team I enjoy the games and move around too much to actually pick one and keep up with it. As far as my complaining aobut the colts goes.... I'm really pissed off that they are getting a new stadium out of my tax dollars and don't even have a superbowl trophy to show for it. The owners want a new stadium so bad, then they can go get the financing for it in my book. Although I must say I was impressed with their game against Denver. |
|
Like I said before, only one team can win every year. History is chock full of truely great teams who didnt win a SB. Bud Grants Vikings, Marino and the fish are just 2 that pop to mind. That doesnt make the rest of the teams chokers. What do you call nascar drivers that come in other than first?? Or any other team/athlete who never wins the ultimate championship? Not all of us are Rob Leatham or Matt Burkett. The new stadium will be used for not only the Colts but there are already plans for a NCAA championship and it will be used for countless other events including non-sporting events. Pair it up with the convention center and it will bring in revenue to the entire spectrum of business in Indy and the donut counties. I DO hear the argument of those who may NEVER benefit from the stadium and WONT go to any event there for whatever reasons. But you know what,, I dont care cause Im tired of hearing the whining from people who know its not a bad thing, just something they dont want so we ALL should just say "OK, if you dont want it the hell with the thousands and thousands who do". I get taxed at a high rate to help send everyone elses kids to school when I have none, I ge taxed to pay for social services that I dont use, I pay taxes for all kinds of crap I never will see any benefit from. Im GLAD for once I can see some payback on my tax dollars I spend every time I come to INDY. |

+1 Nicely stated tnek! Go Colts!! |
You call that whining? ![]() Whining is what all of you will be doing when the Colts do what they do best, choke in the playoffs. |
I dont think so. Not that they cant be beat but Manning is playing at a level not seen in this league. |
The city spends all kinds of money on a stadium for the colts, but closes fire houses and cant pay overtime for cops.... Well I hope you never need any help from public safety. |
Boo Hoo,,,,, The state is/was involved with financing for the stadium and I make no apologies for the new stadium. I wasnt in the crowd who wanted one but its a done deal. Get over it cyrbaby. Im all for paying cops and firefighters more being a conservative and pro law and order kind of guy. Having said that helmethair you can pound sand. You knew when you took the job it didnt pay as well as lots of other jobs and thats YOUR problem. I commend you for your service but when you start crying like this you can take your whinney ass somewhere else. BTW I see lots of LEO types who seem to live better than I do. Not to mention how well the sheriff of marion county seems to live from press reports. If your not happy with your income get a better job. End of story. |
I never complained about my pay check. That is not an issue. The safety of the public is what I was talking about. Less cops on the streets and less firemen with fire houses farther apart. You can call me a"whinney ass", but when you wake up and your house is on fire or your car has been stolen you can go call the colts. Football is great and I'm glad everyone rallys around our team, But I won't be buying tickets or jersys. It's a personal thing. I didn't post here to start a fight rather to make a statement. I feel very strongly about what I do. It has been done in my family for three generations. And as far as the get a better job comment I have the best job in the world! I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman. The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the work which the fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling. ~Edward F. Croker |

Last reply for the hair. It DOES sound like your complaining about pay to me and I live in an area that has volunteer township fire protection. Everytime they come knocking on the door to sell stuff or any other fund raiser Im in. Im SICK of listening to CRYBABIES who cant get over the issue that the stadium is a done deal. WHAA I want all of the tax dollars to go to MY dept,,,WHAAA What do you want?? A firestation every 100 yards?? How many shiney new trucks do we have to buy?? How many hours a day does the average FF sit on thier ass in the station compared to responding and resetting thier equipment?? Heck the city firefighters in a station near me have to have the city contract to mow the grass, about an acre, and I dont know why a couple of them cant push a mower while they are waiting for the call. I suppose they have to be on the hair trigger and razor sharp or maybe they are lazy. Its never enough is it??? |
Actually it's not paid for, I believe they still owe millions on it. There was an article in the paper about it. Pretty sad. ETA: here is an article that states the city still owes $75 million. |
|
Its bullshit that they kept refinancing the debt! There should have been an ironclad agreement to prevent that and HAD they done that paying off the original debt would have been a condition to building a new one. Its about as smart as buying a tv from a rent to own place. THAT part does piss me off to no end. Some fiscal responability would have cut the legs out from under any complaints about a new stadium. Now its just fuel for the fire. BTW the Cowgirls played well and we made some mistakes. If we played again next Sunday Id bet the farm we win. |
You gotta like that, don't ya! |
|
Believe it or not Seattle still owes millions on the Kingdome and they imploded that thing a few years ago. I do think it's stupid to spend 3/4 of a billion dollars on a football stadium when our schools are lousy and our public services are under funded. I love football but think about it...3/4 of a billion for a new stadium, 75 million still owed on the old one and Lucas field construction company that ran the central library project. That's nearly a billion dollars, mostly in taxes and public money to support a private enterprise, And we all know what a bang up job they are doing on the library. Meh, At least Idon'tl ive in Marion county. |
I have to ask helmet,,, how can you blame the Colts for the fact that the powers that be did the rent to own scam on this??? PS you never did awnser me just HOW MANY fire stations do we need?? How many new shiney firetrucks?? While I dont make it a part time job to research how city infrastructure is financed Id be willing to bet a set of my season tickets that some of your cool fire equipmet is grossly overpriced and financed thru a connected financial source and all of the rest of the local corruption that entails. Rigged bids and all the rest. Of course the public service side is above reproach isnt it?? Tell me how much do you bitch over the corruption of the new library project?? Talk about a money pit. WHAAAA!!!! |
Public safety a money pit? You sure are a quick one. If you haven't noticed public safety was never designed to bring in revenue. And if you think buying the Colts a new stadium is going to bring in revenue think again. They will never pay bring in enough money to pay off the debt the city has racked up to keep them in Indianapolis. I hope this never happens, but if your house ever catches fire please remember to call both 911 and the Colts. Tell me which one shows up. I do agree the library's cost is a joke as well. Its something I'll never use, but it does at least serve a function in the city, unlike the Colts. |
| They think the Library construction company did such a great job that they got the job to build Lucas oil field. I like sports but taxing me more to rent a car, go to a restaurant or get a hotel room to give Jim Irsay money in his pocket is stupid. If Lilly wants to build a new factory they don't raise taxes to pay for it, Lilly pays for it or private donors pay for it. Charging the public for a private enterprise is wrong. I'd call the fire dept. or police if I had to. I'd like to see some new schools or at least air conditioniong in the ones we have in Marion county.I haven't been to a Colts game since about 1990 and at the prices they charge now I wouldn't. As much as we pay for them to exist they should let us in for free. |
Tell you what pal,,if you dont think a new stadium will bring in revenue then your just plain not to bright. IF the city officials had managed the money better the financing wouldnt be where it is. Big city asswipes mismanaging money isnt exactly new. IF you had read the previous posts I made I made my position on MY fire protection plain but you dont seem to be able to read very well, another example of not being to bright. So seth if you dont see why the Colt DO serve a function in this region its serves as the third strike in the not to bright at bat. |
I really get pissed when I hear Jimmy, who didnt work for it, talk about his Jack Kerowak manuscript as much as anyone else. Do you REALLY thing Lilly pays for its own stuff? Private doners dont pay for factories last time I checked. You do, we all do. It comes out of corporate profits. I didnt go to business school and I can figure that part out. Its private enterprise but how many of you follow IU or PU sports?? Who pays for that?? Hell the coaches of college BB and FB teams make big bucks so do you complain about that? Who do you think pays for renovations to college stadiums??? Ticktet holders?? uhh that would be us,,taxpayers. How many of you root for ND?? Or your local HS team in its OVERPRICED goldplated venue? Thats OK though if its YOUR kids isnt it?? Thats MY tax dollars at work and even though I have no kids I think its good that kids have nice schools and sports equipment. How many cars do you rent or hotels to you stay in if your local?? I have stayed in downtown Indy hotels but except for a farm aid concert a long time ago it has been for Colts game since then. Does that count?? SHOW ME ONE INSTANCE OF WHERE A PUBLIC SCHOOL WENT WITHOUT AC BECAUSE OF THE NEW STADIUM?? For fucks sake,,if you dont like the Colts cant you just ignore them?? The new stadium IS BEING BUILT, end of discussion. Instead there are whiney bitches who are mad at the world cause they didnt get all they thought they had coming or still deserve. Fuck, if you want more dont bitch about other stuff,,, go get your own or be happy with what you have. Or is is someone elses fault your a underachiever?? You guys are only a couple steps from the 6 prayer a day guys since it isnt what you find acceptable. I am a Colts and NFL fan. I HATE the bullshit pissing matches the new stadium has caused. If anyone chooses to take it out on the Colts as a team because of it its your loss. This is one of THE BEST NFL teams at this moment in time, and in the country. Someday people will talk about Manning as the best to EVER play the game. If you cant just enjoy it turn the channel or go fuck yourself. PS tenring,,,, although you cant get in for free EVERY game is on FREE TV. |
I may not be very bright but at least I can form proper cohesive sentences. I can even spell! By the way, the only person I see whining in this thread is you. The rest of us are bringing up valid points, while you sit there thumping your chest about how great the Colts are making this city. Not one person here has said anything bad about the Colts. Hell, I hope they don't choke again and maybe even win a superbowl. And yes its obvious you're not a business guru. Please tell me how many years its going to take to pay off a $750 million dollar stadium. Have fun arguing with yourself for the remainder of this topic. |
Give me a valid "point" You cant, you whine about a new stadium thats a done deal and being built if you hadnt noticed. You piped in about the public safety part but really cant provide a clear instance of how the Colts have cost in that area. Funny I was at another game tonight and it was amazing how many people were working downtowm,,, not to mention how many LEO types I saw working traffic and security. How much money did the parking pay for the public garages? Heck I spent money in Fridays and they were packed. Taxi drivers, horse carriages, vendors selling everything under the sun almost, hotel rooms, airline travelers,, think anyone got downtown early and spent money in the mall?? Or had dinner?? NOPE, no revenue there or in the years to come when the new convention center is expanced to cover where the current hoosier dome is. Tell me again about calling the fire department or did you actually go back and read my previous posts? I do agree with you though that your NOT to bright,, and yes Im not running spell check. Uhh,, if you were not a whinner why did you feel the need to attempt to pile on? You pretty much just rolled off instead. |

Damn t-neck chill out. I think the Colts are great as much as the next guy but I would like my tax dollars to pay for things like A/c for the schools and teachers salaries or maybe to pay off the nearly 100 million that we owe on the old stadium.Something that we all could benefit from. Also the last time I checked I didn't get a tax on everthing I did downtown to build a new factory for Lilly or some other huge company. I'm glad your a Colts fan and I hope they do well but spending 3/4 of a billion dollars to get them a new stadium ain't cool.Other stadiums have been built without extra taxes but it isn't easy and why try when the burden can be put on everyone and not the rich owners of the team. P.S. It's a free country and we can whine about what we want when we want. Also several inner city schools lack A/C which isn't conducive to a good learning environment. |
