I was born in Marion County , but moved at 2 . When I got out of the service my folks had moved to Carmel just north of Indiananapolis , so I was there for a couple years. Is the rifle range just north of Carmel still open ? I used to shoot there alot . The old guy who owned it is probably dead by now , It was a nice range w/ bench rests for REAL bench rest competion .

If you are thinking about the Indiana Gun Club, the rifle and pistol ranges where closed years ago.  The people moving in around Geist did not like the noise and sued to close the ranges down.  The owner decided to be a good neighbor and did so.  The sporting clays, trap and skeet are still there, but age the homeowners in the new subdivisions are again working to close down some if not all of the  place and the town of Fishers who annexed the area is on the homeowners side.  To bad this club has been around since 1930.  The only ranges around Indy are a couple of the fish and wildlife state owned properties, a 100 year range in Lebanon and another near Crawfordsvill.  There will be a 1000 yd range opening soon near Wabash.  Also there is the Hamilton County Fish and Game clulb.
