My thoughts on Pops:

I've had several times when I've had employees give me shit for any number of things. Dumb things like the way I clean my gun, or the type of oil I use. To more serious things like on my last three trips in there, one guy in particular has given me flak about my holstered weapon and how I need to have the slide locked back so they know its empty.

I’ve been a range member there for 2 years now and until the last few months I’ve never been bothered about it. Including times when I’ve been very heavily armed with my Desert Eagle, Walther P99 and Keltec P32 all open because I was using a jacket to conceal them and I left it in the car. I walk in with an ammo bag and no magazines or rounds in anything, always no exceptions because they ask for no loaded weapons. Now I’m sorry but I don’t know how to lock the slide back on my Keltec, and there is no way in hell I can fit the desert eagle with slide locked back under my arm.

I don’t want to be rude with them, even after the fact that I’ve been warned that it might result in having a gun pointed at me but come on, I’ve spent tons of money in there and have been a member for 2 years.

My buddy was shooting a 10/22 and he checked it, put the mag back in and walked out to the shop area. This jerk stops ringing us out and walks around the counter, picks up the 10/22, pulls out the mag, and locks the action back. Then he gives us another lecture on needing our slides and actions locked back.

I guess gone are the days of being treated with respect, even as a clean cut individual who has a track record of not causing any problems.

This type of thing really pisses me off, to the point where I have and will take my business elsewhere.

Desert Eagle: I come in ready to order and they quote me $1400 for a plain black one which is WAY over even MSRP! Then the guy asks me why the hell I want a drug dealer gun! I told him I was turning 21 and was entering the hand gun world with one of the best firearms on the market. He then points me towards Glocks and says that they are better firearms and cost a whole lot less but if I want to blow my money on a desert eagle I’m more then welcome to.

I came back here to Bloomington and ordered a Desert Eagle, Keltec P32 and a large chunk of ammo for less then the $1400 I was quoted at Pops.

HK USP Tactical: Again, ready to order and heading up for a range trip anyway. Not a bad price on the USP but I also needed a new holster for my Keltec. He asked for the firearm and I presented it, checked it point straight at the ground ejection port towards him and handed it to him grip up muzzle towards me held by slide. He checks it again and then comments on the HORRIBLE cleaning job that was done on the firearm and how he’s surprised it even works at all. I buy my mag holder and leave. I asked about the USPT but was asked what the hell I want a Special Forces weapon for.

Oh well, it was $150 cheaper at MC anyway.

It’s out of hand! For me it’s an hour and 20 minute drive to pay someone to treat me like shit just for the luxury of shooting my handguns in a clean environment. I clean up my area when I leave and the few times I’ve been in there as they were getting ready to close I’ve even swept the line.

There is a reason that out of my 3 rifles, 3 shotguns and 4 hand guns, not a single one has come from Popguns. Also, they lost a suppressor sale or two while they were at it. Mainly because they wanted to BS me on the transfer tax and charge me for it twice just because they don’t want to order the can that I want.

Every time they give me the business that’s something else I didn’t buy from them. No speed feeds, no ammo, no cases or cleaning supplies, not a single dime.

That is a pretty lame way to be treated since you have been a member so long. This was my first purchase from them and I didnt have any trouble. I suspect the reason I have never noticed any thing on the negative side is probably due to the fact I havent been in a gun shop for a purchace in a long time. I used to be a FFL dealer so I only bought from myself. Never had any trouble using the range and I am not a member. But I havent been there a lot though.

Drug dealer gun? . Sounds to me like some of those guys have strong opinions and need to grow up. I did notice one of the younger guys didnt seem to want to show anything. One of the older guys was really helpful and hung around to show me handguns. I know for sure that they get alot of people that just look and never buy, but you can never tell who has a wad of cash on em and plans on a purchase. Sort of like you planning on buying and they stuff their foot in their ass.

As far as the Glock being the finest gun, well....I agree with that!! Only cause I own one and thats my OPINION. BTW....Hows that KelTec do? I thought about getting one, but have never heard anyone talk about em. It work pretty smooth? No Jams? ETC?

You said MC was cheaper, what is MC?

MC Sports

The keltec is fine if you plan on firing a break-in of 100 rounds and thats it... also I usually clean mine after every range trip I make even though I dont fire it.

I'm leaning more towards a Sig P232 or something along those lines for HK, or Walther

The people that work at MCSports are a bunch of dillholes.  I've told this story before, but there's a young kid that works there, blondish/brownish short hair.  I was looking for rings to fit dovetail bases, commonly referred to as Weaver bases.  MC stocks lots of Leupold rings, some Weaver rings and some other stuff.  I consider the Weaver rings to be junk.  So, the kid walks over, offers to help.  I told him I'm looking for Leupold rings that will fit Weaver bases.  His response: "Why would Leupold make rings to fit Weaver bases?".     When I was shopping for my first handgun, I went in there several times looking at the Kimber Ultra Carry II and Glocks and such.  The first couple times, the guy was real nice, took the triggerlock off so I could play with the gun and try out the trigger.  Then I got a different guy.  Told me very curtly that they can't take the triggerlock off.  WTF?  They never have enough people working the counter.  I'll go in to pick up a box of ammo and have to wait 10 minutes for some guy to quit finger f**king a bow.  The other way they really screwed up: I wanted to order long guns two separate times.  I asked them to get a price for me and call me to let me know.  They never called either time.  I told the firearms manager.  He pretended to care.
The downside of my near-hatred of MC is that they have decent prices on guns.  I did buy a Hoyt from them when it was marked down to $250.  I was then told that I could leave it and my stuff there for the guy to set up.  Probably only take a couple weeks.

I only deal with Andrew.

The younger guy is a dildo and the other older guy is a dildo and couldnt keep his hands off my USP Tactical while I waited for it to clear store inventory

Rather that driving to Pops you might give Atterbury a try.  You can also shoot at Hoosier National Forest.  Give Elmore's a try.   You can't beat the selection there.  It is rare that I go in there in don't come out with a gun.  The prices marked are just a starting point.  He will really deal on a used gun.

I've had pretty good luck at Popguns.  The people there have been friendly, 'course, I wadn't lookin fo no pimp gun!  They did an AR lower transfer for me recently for $25.  I don't think they were thrilled, but they did it.  He did say they wouldn't transfer a stripped lower.  I shoot there on occasion, but am not a member.
Albro's at South Emerson and I465 has pretty good prices, at least they did the last time I bought from them.
Gander Mountain has a butt-load of long guns.  Can't speak to prices, I don't keep up with the market too much, but great selection of hunting guns.

Anyway, I'm finishing my AR build soon.  What can anyone tell me about atterbury or Hoosier forest?  Any other long gun shooting areas around?  Anyone been to Atlanta?

He said for insurance reasons.  He kind of mumbled something about gunsmithing liability, but I didn't push the issue.  The lower I bought was assembled anyway.

The next one I buy will be at the 1500!  I went back in January after a three or four year break, and my BRD flaired up!  I'm still working on a cure, but the cure for this disease is expensive!!!!!

The 1500 is awesome.  Just wear comfortable shoes, and leave your attitude at the door...  (just because it is extremely crowded.  I get frustrated/claustraphobic just walking around)

Went in yesterday to use the range and compare a sig p230, sig p232, walther ppk and a usp compact

I have a USP Tactical in a hip holster, I walk over to the counter that has 3 of the 4 I would like to look at and I stand there for a minute or two

I put down my pistol case and my ammo can and I continue to stand there looking around in the "where the hell is someone who wants to sell me something" sort of way

The guy, who also is the one that gives me shit has walked farther away and is now talking about how if he were in Shelbyville he would just walk in and end the stupid hostage thing and that they were a bunch of pussies.

A few minutes later I walked out.

As a matter of fact, the other guy who I believe was sorting brass had to stop what he was doing and come check me out for my range time cause the guy was too busy talking about how much of a badass he was and that all he needed was his Winchester and the stand-off would be over

Funny how that works.  They are all over you when you just want to window shop, but if you actually want to buy something....  crickets chirping in background.

At least when someone is walking around saying how bad a$$ they are, you can relax because you know they have never been anywhere, done anything, and would $hit themselves if they ever had to.
The Shelbyville thing ended this morning, badly.  I bet those officers aren't walking around right now reassuring each other that they aren't pussies.

Yeah, it is kind of quick, but I just get this bad vibe about you.  I would rather make a quick judgement about you now rather than wait and be sorry later.  If I am wrong about you, I can always apologize.

Good point, add kids to the list too.  Trust me there are plenty of them posting in ARFCOM.

So far I am not overly impressed.   I mounted a 12-42 Nightforce NXS on it.  My biggest gripe is that I had to buy spacers to raise the cheek on it & it has been over 2 months & they have not come in yet.  They also only sell 10mm spacers @ $40 ea. And I needed 3 :-(.

I have shot around 40 rounds through it.  (With proper break-in)   It will shoot close to 1/2 MOA but I have guns that cost 1/4 as much that will do that.  I am hoping that after a few hundred rounds it will do better

Did you order the spacers through the shop? I m really sorry to hear your not very happy with it yet.
The boss put the 300 back for himself the other day so I will have to wait and see how his does as well now.

What kind of range have you shot it at? Randy and I were going to have a shoot off between my 700vs and the SAKO if he ended up with it. His claim was that at 100 there probably wouldnt be much difference, it wasnt till we got out to 500 600 yds and beyond that the SAKO would walk away from the 700vs I dont know how true that is because I feel that if a rifle shoots 1/4 minute at 100 most likely it will carry that on out to the longer ranges. I could be completly off on that but we never got a chance to find out due to the fact you ended up with the first SAKO and Im not dumb enough to out with my .308 against his 300 win at extended ranges.

Let me know how it shakes out I am always interested in how some of the weapons we sell do.
Does SAKO offer an Accuracy guarantee I wonder?  Ill have to check into that.

I ordered the spacers at Elmore's.   I agree with Randy, it should do better at long range.  It is used in allot of long range competition.  I just do not have a place other that Atterbury to shoot.  I would like to compare it to some of my other rifles as well.
