After much thought and consideration, my wife and I are moving to Seymour, Indiana. It's close to family, there's job opportunites there, and it's a smaller town away from the big-city noise.

Just would like to know some info about ranges, which members live near there, and the frequency of campouts in the region. please let me know.

Awesome, welcome to Seymour. I have my shop there. Stop by anythime. Are you going to live in town or on the outskirts?

Welcome to Southern Indiana!

Last year M4Madness and I did an Arfcom group shoot at my property which is about 1.5 hours or so west of Seymour.  We had a good time and hopefully we can pull off another one this year.  Stay tuned to this forum.

I live near Brownstown, about 10 miles away.  There are 4-5 ar15.com members in Jackson County that I know of.

There is a range west of Brownstown on 135.  You need to be a member of South Central Gun Club to use it.  They have matches monthly.

Good places to camp include Starve Hollow near Vallonia, Jackson-Washington State Forest near Brownstown and anywhere around Monroe Lake south of Bloomington.

Jigga's shop is Seymour has a nice selection as does Bite the Bullet on 31 north of town.  Bassmasters is good too.

SW1,

Congratulations on the decision.  I don't think that you'll be disappointed at all.  Oh and by the way, the Commish was being very modest about how much fun the ARFCOM shoot at his place was.

Welcome aboard!

My wife's sister and her sister's husband and son live in Seymour. We visit there every now and then. I'm less than an hour from there.

I also try to visit fellow member Jigga's shop when I have extra money to blow on NFA goodies.

Excellent, Smithers. This sounds good.

The plan is to live on the outskirts, so I can set up a range in the back of the property. I love driving to Atterbury, but having my own range would just be one better.

Jigga-man, I plan on making a stop in your shop, or taking up residence there.  Actually, a buddy of mine and his fiance are moving down there, and he is thinking of purchasing a Glock... probably a G19. What do those run with Mepro Green/Green's installed? Do you think you might need some part time help come December?

Commish, do you ever do any SF campouts on your property? I have a lot of knowledge on Land nav/Orienteering, Basic Survival, and Squad size element movement. Get at me, it could be fun.

M4Madness. once I get the range set up, I'll invite all the South Indiana ARFCOM'ers to give it's first test run. I plan on setting up a IDPA like course towards the back. I may open it for public use and charge... ARFCOM'ers shoot free, of course

Everyone let me know what you can about the area. I would also like to know about the LEO and the NFA applications if possible. If I decide to get a Class III, how easy to get stuff signed off on. Still debating the options, but would like to keep it open.

Again, Thanks.

Jigga can probably tell you what the situation for sign-offs is in Jackson County, since his Class 3 shop is located there in Seymour.

Here in Lawrence County, the sheriff usually signs while you wait. If not, next-day pick-up for sure.

What is a "SF" campout?

They're the campouts often talked about in the survival forum (thus the SF). They get together to shoot, go over Land Nav, Orienteering, Basic Survival, Rifle/Pistol Marksmanship, and Tactical Movement, show off all their guns and neat gear, and just have a good time!!

Do you do any of that, or do you just do the shooting gatherings?

I did a winter campout the week before last, but no one showed up. Which is probably a good thing because I didn't have any firewood cut ahead of time!

I'm open to one of those campouts.  I don't have a lot of level ground though and could accomodate only about half a dozen campsites unless people minded squeezing a little closer.  That assumes everyone camps in the same spot.

I'm sure we could manage. The idea of a survival campout isn't necessarily to be comfortable, but to see how you would fair under such conditions.

After I move down that way, I would be more than happy to come and help set up for a camp/shootout, so long as schedule permits and I had enough notice.

Thanks for all your help, guys. Jigga has graciously offered to help me with some purchases and transfers to get my M4's built, so I can get those started once I come home on R&R.

Hopefully, when I come home for R&R, we can start looking for properties, and getting stuff started on the moving process. If you guys see some open area properties down in that area, PLEASE let me know.

Again, thanks for all your help guys.
