Left turn in turn lane only. It will be marked as to which lanes can turn or not. If there are no markings then you can only turn left from the left lane.
-Coop ETA- When both roads are one way there will usually be a sign that allows lane 1 & 2 to turn. Are you describing a particular intersection? If so let me know which one, I'll check it out. |

I always turn from the turn lane but more often than not, people from other lanes try to turn too and it usually makes a mess. The other day, some guy tried to turn in and almost hit me. I honked and he flipped out, yelling something about "2" and holding up two fingers. It made me wonder if two lanes are all allowed to turn since I see it so frequently and he was so adamant. I looked over DC code already. All I saw was that you should turn into the nearest lane and that you cannot turn where a lane signal indicates that you must go straight. |

If you look at Google Maps you can clearly see that there is a sign on the lampost at that intersection designating the leftmost lane as a left turn only and the next lane as a permitted left turn or through lane. So there is...I'm either blind or that tree is larger now and blocks the sign |

For 18th, the RTL is designated by an arrow in the roadway and a RT arrow on the signal. The signal does not allow a right turn from any lane but that one. It compels you to go straight through the intersection in lane 4. But that doesn't mean some hajji fuckstick cabdriver won't do it. |

The bulk of D.C. traffic is comprised of two types.
1. The self-important. This includes the somewhat important who rate limos, motorcades, gov't cars, double parking, etc. 2. Ignorant indigenous savages and Third-World types. Neither of which understand or obey law as a rule. The urban hipsters, out-of towners, delivery guys, etc. are a small percentage but in aggregate compound the problem. The circles, diagonal streets, security closings, perpetual public events and lack of a Northern approach really fuck things up. |
