If Maryland sucks so badly, as we are so often told on this site, then why are so many people moving here?
I know the answer. |
Easiest place to suckle the government teat.
Would be a GREAT place if not for the "not from around heres" and the majority of the pols. Hell, if we could surgically remove PG,MoCo, and Balt, it's be great: Mountains, marshes, ocean-great hunting and fishing- Just too many Aholes. Gimme back MY Maryland. |

I live on the shore side. I like it for the most part. So you're over in the "outhouse"? I wish I was there, then it wouldn't feel like I were in MD. Unfortunately, I have to work in Baltimore shitty and am reminded every day of what a piss-poor place it is. |

Lower taxes and reasonable gun laws would make MD one of the best places to be. I love living off the gov't teat, but all them Republicrats and Demublicans moving here have jacked MoCo up beyond recognition. Only 40 years ago, my old man brought his rifle to school with him IN the District and just left locked in his locker (he went to Archbishop Carroll). He carried a revolver in his glovebox when he lived in Bethesda until a few years before I was born. Times have certainly changed for him and even I have noticed the difference in just 3 decades. We need to take the power back and un-gerrymander the districts that make Balto/MoCo have all the power. If we had laws like VA and Annapolis controlled everything the way Richmond does, there might be some improvement. if only........
In short, I like it here. But I'm only giving it 5 more years (max) before I GTFO to VA. |

People are moving here because:
* Delaware decided they don't like businesses * Jersey decided they don't like people * NY decided they don't like anybody but rich liberals and teat-suckers * Virginia hates cars and the people who drive them * PA doesn't care what you do, but you'd better BYO job * The Carolinas are just too much driving to get anywhere If you don't particularly care about firearms laws, and you don't make so much money that the state will try to suck you dry, and assuming you stay out of the ghetto parts, Maryland is a great place to live. |

Two years ago I drove a truck out of Tysons Corner all the way to Las Vegas and back.
We went out Rte. 40 and came back via Rte. 70. I saw a lot of this country I'd never seen. You may like wide open spaces or your handy desert where you can unlimber your .50 but honestly, there's a lot of featureless barren lanscape in the West and Southwest. And I don't mean the pretty rocks, I'm talking West Texas and OK and the un-elevated parts of NM and AZ. I'd fucking shoot myself in the head if I had to look at that everyday. And no decent Chinese food until you get to Vegas and Cali. Kansas is as flat as you can imagine, it's a place to be from or pass through, not to stay. Hell, 10 minutes north of Vegas and you might as well be on Mars. Me, I like seasons, and the ocean, and trees and being eight hours drive from Boston and Atlanta. I might have to eat shit for two hours to work in D.C. but I'm not 56 miles from beer and cigarettes. Our local economy rocks, we've been highly insulated from the worst of the housing bust and some of the recession. Fix our few fucked gun laws and deal with the savages in the cities and it's a pretty nice place all of a sudden. Oh yeah, Delaware ain't class III but we are. |
| I've lived a few places in my young life. PA, NC, TX, MD etc. and of them all I hate MD the most. the weather is the worst of the four down here in SOMD. the gun laws suck and are fixing to get worse. the politicians think they are doing you a favor by letting you live in their domain. the libtards run so rampant that even the country boys wonder why I would need those "evil hi cap mags". |
|
The laws suck and there are too many undesirable thugs around, but all in all it's better than Ohio where I'm from.
At least there's stuff to do out here. Even if your completely bored and have absolutely nothing to do, you can drive 30 mins in either direction and have a totally different place to look at. You guys are complaining about MD? Jesus Christ you should visit Cleveland sometime and get back to me... |

Hi All,
Just moved here from DC. Lived in DC for 5 years and before that I lived in VA for 5 years. Got married and had to leave DC, but couldn't afford VA anything North of Woodbridge
Moved to Ft. Washington and found a quiet place in the sticks. We work in DC so the commute is not bad. I will say, having been raised in NY and living 10 years in Philly, MD is truly a beautiful place. The politics, however suck. So, being new here, I know the firearms laws suck, but manage to get by (LEO) It can get better, even DC is getting better, albeit with a gun to their head. Best, -Coop |
| I'm here because the wife got stationed here. The day we move and I see the DC metro area in my rearview mirror for the last time will be one of the best days of my life. I have met a bunch of really nice and decent people but the majority of the people I deal with are self absorbed assholes. I also miss my $20 Alabama pistol permit (read ccw). |
Uncle Sam stuck me here in MD for my last assignment before retiring and I have to admit I do like SOMD (St Mary's County). The taxes suck, the commute to DC sucks, the gun laws suck (but better than many other states such as NJ, NY, Cal to name a few), and the cost of living sucks. Once the housing market comes back enough to sell my place, we are headed back to Texas (even if I have to change careers to find work). Of all the states I have lived in during my 24 year stint in the Air Force (NJ, CA, FL, TX) MD is 3rd, FL 2nd, TX !st, and it is not bad. I enjoy my nearly 4 acres of property out in the county and do enjoy not getting beat up with car taxes every year (sorry VA). Yup when I retired I went to work for a DOD contractor, suckling on that gov teat if you want to put it that way. I do like being close enough to the shore and to the mountains to go to both when the mood stricks for riding the motorcycle, hunting and fishing. Now if we could get rid of the liberal politicians here and the idiots in the cities.

MD isnt a bad place to live if we could get our gun laws situated and quit trying to fix the public's problems.
There is an organization called MSI (Maryland Shall Issue) working gun laws in MD. Go to www.MSI.com and check out the political end of this. There is only one real way to get things changed and that starts with ELECTED OFFICIALS. Don't like the laws... Change the law makers! People have the REAL POWER, but they really only get to use it every couple of years. Be sure to vote... It's your greatest right of all. |

It used to be a nice place to live, before all those liberal assholes from other states moved here! It's only been about 25 years since things really started going south - that Baltimoron asshole Schaeffer got the ball rolling by trying to turn the rest of the state into an extension of the city, followed by the corrupt asshole from PG county, Glendenning. Hughs was the last reasonable dem governor the state had, and it's been downhill ever since. |
