I looking to fly in and out of BWI with my black guns. My final destination will be in VA where everything will be legal but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with checking fully evil AR15s and a couple of pistols.
Thanks |

I just flew out of and back into BWI with my AR, a Beretta U22, and a Stoeger O/U with no issues. Go right ahead.
The Southwest agent made me pull the rifle out and show him the chamber was empty right at the check-in counter, so I'd recommend leaving the BCG out to avoid a misunderstanding with everyone nearby that sees you pick up a "OMG! fully automatic M16!" and pull back the charging handle. |

Like the post above... I flew to FL to MD through BWI and carried this... http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c16/akanazasky/My%20toys/IMG_0010.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c16/akanazasky/My%20toys/IMG_0001-1.jpg I just had an AR on way home for X-mas. Print out TSA instructions and highlight the important part. Show it to the ticket agent if they give you problem. Make sure you have a good case, good lock(s). At the ticket counter, tell the agent you want to declare weapon (They will ask you to open the case to check make sure it's not loaded). You will sign weapon slip, toss in the case, lock it and they will tag send it on the belt. You are now ready to go. |

Guys - you may want to consider this option to avoid theft (especially of handguns):
I lock my handguns/lowers TO the suitcase. Regulations require a hard-case for firearms and I put that hard case inside another suitcase. I typically use an old-style Glock box and put a U-lock through it & around the metal frame in the suitcase. I have also drilled holes in other small pelican cases to accomodate U-locks that go through the mag-well. I always use a regular suitcase bcause it doe not advertize the fact that there is a gun inside. Gun cases just scream "steal me!" IMHO. TSA can still examine the gun all they want behind closed doors. But the gun CANNOT be separated from the suitcase. There has bever been ANY reason for TSA to cut a lock in this case & i've never been hasled about it by the airline or TSA. Why do this? Because, the air-line baggage handlers DO steal guns - especially hand-guns. They smuggle handguns out of their workplace under their clothes. Kinda hard to smuggle out a whole suitcase. Even the cheap cable-locks that come with most handguns are better than nothing. Thieving baggage handlers are "criminals of opportunity" - if you put up obstacles they will probably just go on to the next bag. |

I keep the pistols in the case with the long guns, but I keep the slide and/or cylinder in my suitcase with the magazines. (in another locking box) I hope you would send the "slide and or cylinder, magazines" in another checked baggage and not as carry on. I almost got tackle at BWI because I forgot I had a new in wrap Glock 30rds mag in my issued ACU bag. I had no way to take it with me so I have to let them conficated |

Oh snap - I love to see libertards pee themselves. I'd yank that handle so hard, pilots landing would hear it and I'd laugh my ass off |
