| First of all I appologize for my ignorance, but I have a question concerning the way that bills work. I was on the Md general assembly website and seen that the last hearing for HB 2 CCW was back in Jan. and no action was taken. My question is when can the bill be heard again. Basically when is our next chance to try to get this passed. Thanks in advance. |
To be more specific, the chair of the committee single-handedly killed it by not bringing it up for a vote. Same thing the Senate Judicial Proceedings committee chair did with HB1060. I don't know if it would've made it out of committee even if it HAD come up for a vote, but that makes no difference. Committee heads have nearly unchecked power to kill off any bill that comes through their committee that they have a political interest in seeing fail.  I've lost all faith in the Maryland political system. When a bill like HB1060 passes UNANIMOUSLY in the House, and then the Senate Chair kills it single-handedly without it even coming to a vote, the system is broken. |
