| Where can I find a listing of any and all shooting competitions in MD? I've never been to one and I'd like to see what they're all about. |
Do you have a link? |

Too broad a question for best results. What sort of shooting comps are you looking for? Rifle, pistol, shotgun? Whats sort of shooting? I'm not aware of any one, all-inclusive list, but if we know what discipline you'd like to shoot, there are any number of individial clubs and facilities with their own brand of fun some of us can point you at. There is a shoot scheduled at Quantico this Sunday, "modified F class". Looks like a low turnout this month, but I believe the shoot will go on anyway. www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=336763#Post336763 www.quanticoshootingclub.com/ Thurmont Conservation Club has 100/200/300 yard benchrest matches . . . www.tcandsc.org/ There are skeet and trap clubs all over . . . ?? ETA: Disregard Quantico . . . I just got word that Range 4 (the 1k range) has been shut down for construction/maintenence for a while. |
Sounds like you'd enjoy the BR matches at Thurmont then, they shoot benchrest "Varmint For Score", in which shot placement scores, vs group sizes. One shot per bull, scoring rings and Xs count. Nice group of guys, always been very hospitable and made me feel quite welcome. If you can hit flies regularly at 100, you'd probably place above average. What part of MD are you in? |
The schedule for pistol shoots in MD, including Thurmont, is here: www.vamdsection.org They just shut down all the shoots at St. Charles over a personal conflict with the match director, so those are a no-go, sorry. Good news is they still have shoots at Thurmont, eastern shore, and some sort of rifle/shotgun side match out at Sanners Lake, which is near St. Charles. They also shoot IDPA out at Thurmont, I think on Tuesday nights; if you google "Thurmont Sportsment's Club" you can find the websites that has the calendar, the schedule, and the list of events with dates (plus check "activities"). Finally, we also shoot an "IPSC-style" match at the shooting range they have set up down in the basement of the NRA's HQ off Rt. 66 in Virginia. If you call on the phone, they have a schedule recorded each month. All shoots welcome spectators & all are welcome to shoot so long as they contact the match director ahead of time to reserve a spot (great opportunity to ask questions too).
