Received my letter from the MSP that my request to be a "Collector" was approved. I am now exempt from the one regulated firearm in a 30 day period law, and do not need to complete the Application for Multiple Purchase of Regulated Firearms form. Wow, I can buy more than 1 lower at a time now! Best two bucks I have spent on firearms (Notary fee). FWIW, it took exactly one month from the date of mailing the request until approval. |

The key with this designation is that it allows you to "informally show" your collection to others. The MSP regulations are quite rigid when it comes to where and how you can transport your firearms. For anyone out there, there is no fee (other than if you pay a notary) and getting one highly suggested. Chris. |
I got mine a while back, it has been handy as I was on a buying spree for a while getting 5-6 restricted items per month. What is the meaning or benefit of it with regards of being able to "informally show" your collection to others? Does it allow transport with less restrictions than one without a collector permit? Please elaborate, thanks. |

with this collector forms, do I still have to go through the FFL to get my guns transfered to me since i am looking to avoid the FFL fees Just trying to understand what this will do for me. I just want to buy something that i will do once in a blue moon.. EDIT ::: Thanks, Just wanted to ensure that I understand that part :) |
No, you will still have to go through an FFL. It just allows you to purchase more than 1 regulated firearm in any 30 day period. |

http://www.mdsp.org/downloads/Collector_Application_Affidavit.pdf So that is the only form that i need to set to get my "collector status' wtih no money sent except get a notary to get it which i know somoene who can do it for me I want to be one of the stats to show them that people are responsable here ! if so, i am going to do it, will they be coming here to check me out or just sent the paper and it comes just fine as approved :) One part of the application: Describe nature of collecting activities: ___________________________ Just display that I like to collect it and ensure its value ? thats it ? |

I believe what Chris is referring to is this additional exemption to the "wear, carry, transport" handgun law beyond target shoots, etc. "(5) the moving by a bona fide gun collector of part or all of the collector's gun collection from place to place for public or private exhibition if each handgun is unloaded and carried in an enclosed case or an enclosed holster;" Since a conviction (other than a PBJ) for illegally carrying a handgun in Md. will trigger both the federal lifetime ban and probable forfeiture of any weapon involved, as well as any others you own, it is probably 2 dollars well spent. Regulated long guns however, are treated like all long guns as far as routine transportation by the owner is concerned and are not under the restrictions of the handgun carry law. They still need to be completely unloaded when carried in a vehicle though.
