hope you get this..     For a run, head north, left out of the parking lot and keep the athletic stuff on your right.  Continue up and over the railroad tracks, at the bottom there is a paved trail (head back towards the tracks..) , you can go left or right..  I think right will give you about 2 miles, 1 to the left.  (not a loop)

If your a marathon runner.. just stay on 896 north, go all the way to the 'T' make a left and a quick right.  Keep going, turns into a nice cuntry lane w/ stream.

how long are you in town?

Till Friday.  I ended up just running around the campus (checking out chicky snacks) and then the restraunts downtown.  I saw the trail on the tracks, I might hit that tomorrow.  I got about 5 1/2 today so I'll only hit 3 tomorrow.
Nice campus, since I didn't go to a normal college, its always weird to be on a normal college campus.
Oh, and I am old enough.

it wasn't so much if you were old enough, but if you were too old..

glad you got to 'enjoy' campus, I try to often ;)  after you go over the tracks the first left is ritter, I live back there...

what do you do, that you are in newark for business?

Here for a conference.
yeah, I am probably too old.
C'est la vie

1. Bang college coeds
2. Drink at Deerpark
3. Bang college coeds
4. Drink & eat at Iron Hill Brewery (really the place to go if you have per diem or travel money, its a hair too expensive for students to hang out at, about the price of Applebees, maybe $1-2 more per meal)
5. Bang gradstudent you met at Iron Hill
6. Eat pizza at Grotto's
7. Start over at #1.

Can you tell I went to UDel?

The tracks were a nice run.  Heading N its about .6 one way and about 1.2 heading S (I am guessing on the directions).  3.6 for the whole loop back and forth plus another 1.5 (give or take) from the hotel makes it a nice 5 miler.  Fewer distractions, too.  We need an old man smiley.  It was nice that a few of the s actually smiled at me.  Ego always can use a boost occasionaly.
Kharn, the plan sounds nice, but I doubt I would get approval for COAs 1,3, 5 and 7 from Mrs. Sylvan.  I'll ask, though.
I will probably do COA 4 tonight

you should do the long run.  just be back into town before dark.

it's called creek road http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Creek+Rd,+Newark,+DE&ll=39.695597,-75.757513&spn=0.014595,0.042787&t=h

..oh and the nachos at the deerpark are great..  nice to sit on the porch w/ some and a beer..

run AAR.
very nice run.
I took N. college till it ended, and then just went running.  Again, I only planned to do about 4-5 and ended up between 7 or 8 miles.
I ended up in PA (not saying your state is small or anything, but if you go for a run and end up in a different state, there is a problem)
1830 ali babas if you are interested.  Look for the (sorta) old guy with short hair.

You might've passed through MD too, DE's pretty tiny.

Dela-Where?    I love that one.  Sorry DE guys.

Come on Sylvan, tell them them how nice our little corner of the world is..

The funniest part of UDel is that in Delaware, people under 21 absolutely cannot go into liquor stores, you get a ticket.  But, drive 5min down 273 (do I have the number right? aka Main Street headed toward Trabant) and you're at State Line Liquors in MD.  I'd go in there to get some alcohol on the weekend, and it'd be filled with underage kids and their 21yo friends helping them load up for the weekend. So much for that law.

Yeah that helps offset the rest of us who refuse to go into MD because we have to disarm.

I think MD should offer reciprocity for DE residents. It sucks so bad when I cant carry because im going to MD.Damn communist state.

ZMan: How did you get your CCW in DE? I hear it's tough without being LEO, security or carrying money.
4/20/2006 7:29:41 PM EDT
[#21]
All the rumors people hear about how hard it is to get  a CCW in De are false.Ill admit it takes alot of leg work to run all over the state and get finger prints and go to the Phonatarys office but its not that bad.It took me about 2 months and about 450 bucks to get mine.
4/21/2006 7:49:34 AM EDT
[#22]
Zman: Could you paraphrase your letter and a recommendation letter? My only reason to carry is personal protection and protection of property and I'm told by a few people that that won't fly.

Also, they require you send all information necessary for a background check with your application. Is this just Name, Address, Phone, SSN?
4/22/2006 2:59:13 PM EDT
[#23]
Bnoji,If you go to Packing.org you can down load the application,it also gives all the required info to apply. The information the state needs is extensive.
Youll need to have a weapons training class.Theres a man by the name of Dan Lindbergh is number is 302-475-4228 and he will actually do the reason part for you.He really helps you though the whole process.Give him a call.
Personal protection will fly he'll just ad some flare to it and use ways to get the application approved.
Good luck
Have any other questions just ask Im more than willing to help.

Thanks for the advice. That was my only issue...how to word it and state the reason.

I have a few NRA awards I can use for my FL permit to show proficiency, but I guess DE requires a separate class? Also, if I passed NICS (state and federal) for a handgun purchase a few weeks ago, do they still run a background check again? Is it the same check?

Thanks.

did you read the requirements for the license?  the name of 'their' game is to make nothing easy.

follow the instructions - do not skip ANYTHING.
dot your I's and cross your Ts.

It's not hard you just have to play the game.

....and dress like your going to church when you have your pics taken.  don't be looking like a biker / banger - you won't be happy.

Yes you still have to go to a training class and go though "what if" senerios. Theres not much book time but youll be at the range and put in to a situation that will warrent choices on how to approch the threat. You will go though the Nics and fed check again and beleive me someone will nit pick your application to find anything wrong.
As Zukota says cross your Ts and dot your Is
Its not hard just alot of running around and jumpn though hoops.
Just so you know you can have your pic taken any place that does passport photos. My pic is so bad i look like a con.
On the plus side when you buy another firearm you dont have to do the state nics check after you get your CCW.
Call Dan hes a big help.Just beware he does tend to make jokes but there very dry and you might get lost but hes a strait shooter.
Figure 3 months from the time you start till that little envelope comes with your licence. The funny thing is I dont carry as much as you would think.Winters no big deal but with summer coming, Im thin and printing is a big problem.
Good luck
Sean

Zukota do you have a CCW?

I think I've got all my paperwork in order. I have the application, instructions, a set of passport photos (although i look like a bum), and 5 of reference sheets.

Still need to state my need/reason, get my 5 references signed, re-take the passport pics and get my application into the News Journal and get fingerprinted. (and notarized)

I gave that number a call and no one answered. Seems like a home phone line.

Yes, Its home phone. Just leave a message or call back. Its ok, hes a good guy.
Sounds like your on your way  good luck.
