The house I just bought is 10 minutes from Hap Baker. I have never been there. Any good and are they AR friendly.

Good is relative. They seem to be AR friendly. I guess it is easier to say that they are not AR...., or AK, unfriendly. If you just abide by the simplestuff like no rapid fire, no holstered weapons etc., you wil be okay. They do have a sign that reads "Due to the metroplitan sniper attacks no 30 round magazines or banana clips". I have used 30 round mags before and none of the range masters said a word to me. i don't have to worry about "banana clips" as none of my weapons fire bananas.

Rules are really lax.  They're not really friendly in general, but they also don't bother you too much.  They're all hunters (so it seems) so they don't know the first thing about AKs.  The sign about 30 round mags is not enforced whatsoever and should have been taken down years ago.  The price went up from $5 to $10 a day.  Targets are $.25 if you buy from them or you can bring your own to put up.  I stopped going there when the price went up.  If you go with someone else, they usually make your group share a lane, which in my opinion is unacceptable.  Plus there's a wait sometimes.  For a couple dollars fine, but for $10 each I am NOT sharing a lane with anyone.  Cresap is $2 a shooter and you even get your very own lane.

On the bright side, you can shoot rifles and pistols from the same lane and stand or sit for any type of weapon.

Well I stopped by there today. My first time. I wasn't to impressed. After driving so far off the main road I thought it was going to be a lot bigger. I had the family with me so I justed peeked around the corner.

Crowded it was, and having to shoot within a box. for sound.

BRONZ, I live in Carroll Co. also. I will have to get a few of us together and take ya'll to Mayberry where I am a memeber. it is Usually empty amd have seperate pistol and rifle ranges. the only problem is because of my job, weekends are not always the best because I am only off about every other 3 weekends.

Those that might be interested let me know and i will throw out some dates.

I know hap baker isn't all that , but keep in mind that it is run by the county parks department.

Put me down for Mayberry. Isn't Mayberry off of Rt 140 heading towards Tawneytown?

come on guys, the place is not that bad.   Yes you shoot inside a box but its so big it does not get in the way.  I guess I just get lucky the both times I have gone it was not Crowded. But it could because of the time I go also.  But I am up for shooting anywhere.

If you go during peak times you wish you wouldn't have even left the house.  Plus they take your money upfront so you pretty much have to wait! (well, I guess you could get your money back...)  I like the fact that you can shoot either rifle or pistol from the same line (you could last time I went anyway).

Do you have to shoot inside the box now?!  The best thing I liked about it was that you could walk up to the red line and shoot your rifle standing up.

You can shoot standing up....the box is just for shooting off of the bench.  In fact, the last time I was there, there was a fella with an AR working his way through what looked like a competition regimen....standing, prone, kneeling.

Have fun in GA. Nice and hot. I was in SAn Diego last week doing a class for the USSS ECSAP conf. I have been to FLETC a couple of times, but never attended. It was a few years ago setting up some training. Are you fed or local? Reply in IM if you want.

So what's it cost to join?

rmz, I don't remember the initial but it's $40.00 a year, you must attend atleast 4 to 5 meetings and volunteer 12 hours a year, events, mow grass etc.  They have pavilions you can use for cook outs, camp there, fishing pond with bass, catfish, blue gill and crappie. NICE PLACE.
