Hi,
I have accumulated enough parts to build two AKs (including demilled kits, 100% receivers, barrels, rivets, 922r compliance parts, etc.), but I lack the tools and know-how to actually build them. I really want to be the one to assemble them, rather than send them off to a builder, because I want to learn, get hands-on experience, and expand my knowledge base. Thus, I was wondering if there is anyone locally who would be willing to help me with this. Or is this the start of a Minnesota build party thread? Thanks in advance! |

Tag for info on what the problem with build parties was. Seems like a great way to share/contribute to the cost of expensive tools. Heck, the tool loan threads on this site are basically online build parties. Not sure who might know -- I'm just going off a vague recollection of hearing that there was an issue with them. It may have simply been a problem with 80% lower build parties, but I honestly don't remember. |

IIRC there was an issue with %80 build parties; pushing a button on a pre-programmed CNC was deemed as the person owning the CNC/mill building the receiver, not the guy pushing the button..
A build party where everyone already has %100 receivers though should be a non-issue? I mean, 4473's have already been approved; it's just mashing some rivets at that point.. |

I would think that's the case. Perhaps the issue with AKs was with build parties for building from flats instead of complete receivers? |

Not trying to be obtuse, but deemed by whom? By that logic pushing down on a drill press lever through a jig means the person who built the jig is the manufacturer. |

There's several threads in GD about a guy now doing Hmm had my prison times conflated with another story I was reading

It's been a while since I checked this thread, and I'm glad to see more interest.
My impression is that the two "big" tools needed that the average apartment dweller (e.g. me) doesn't have access to are: a drill press and an hydraulic press. The drill press is needed for drilling holes in the receiver for the rivets, and the hydraulic press is for the rest of the rivet work and pressing the barrel. There are other assorted fixtures and jigs that help make the work easier and more consistent. All I can contribute are various hand tools (files, punches, dremel, etc), time, and a moderate amount of muscle. Is there anyone out there willing to contribute equipment or host a venue? |

I've been interested in building an AK from a parts kit and 100% receiver but don't have the tools to do the rivets. From the looks of this thread there is interest but not for a while. Is there anyone that is trying to set up a build party? Is there anyone in the metro area that has the tools for a rivet build that wouldn't mind helping out?
Thanks in advance |
