I am looking for any insight on the transfer of a firearm face to face with someone you know as well as the online ads. I have my PTP and am looking at buying a lower from a friend. He wanted to do another build however has change his mind due to financial trouble.

With that, I am curious if we have to do any sort of paper work or anything like that or if I can just give him the money and consider it my own in the eyes of the law.

You don't need to do any kind of paperwork for face-to-face transfers within the state. You don't actually need a permit to purchase either, but some sellers will want to see one for peace of mind.

Transfer law

The link covers transfers for hand guns and ERBs in Minnesota.  If you are a private party selling to a private party then Subd. 12 excludes you from all of the provisions above it.  Subd. 14 covers selling to an unknown party and the way it is worded makes a bill of sale and seeing a PTP or PTC a good CYA move on the part of the seller.  Sounds like you know each other and are not prohibited persons so no paper work would be required.
