Sorry to hijack the shooting day thread, but I think we have a date and a NEW PLACE!

Cheeseheads People from Wisconsin are also encouraged to attend!

I just got off the phone with Ken, the owner of the West Branch Gun Club in Princeton. WBGC is where they have the machine gun shoots. It is a big gravel pit in a PRIVATE gun club. The pit range is almost 100 yards, and we can shoot at "stuff" as opposed to "just paper"! (keep in mind, we will need to remove everything we bring in to shoot at}.

I know what you're thinking, "it's gonna be cold!"...Well, there just happens to be a house trailer/shooting trailer along the firing line that is HEATED. We will need to bring wood to burn in the stove to utilize this feature SO WE CAN SHOOT IN WARMTH! LOL

Here is the deal. We need to get AT LEAST TEN PEOPLE to make this work. We need a minimum of $100 up to 10 people or $10/person if over 10 people. If it is just 5 people, it will be $20 each...Do the math on the rest. This will be cheaper than Armored Fire.

I'm thinking we should do this on Saturday the 18th, say, Noon? We need to get an exact date/time in order to get a reservation.
ITS AT 11 AM
If some of you have a problem with Saturday, LET US KNOW...Also, let us know if you are FLEXIBLE and can change to Sunday to allow more people to come. I'm flexible, just using Saturday as start.

Things to bring:
GUNS
AMMO
REACTIVE TARGETS (as opposed to paper)
FOOD
POP/WATER...Um, no liquor please.
FIREWOOD (if you can)

We MIGHT need to make some small signs for along the road to help people get there, as it is in the "sticks".

There are no services there, so bring everything you might need.

What do ya think?

So far it is Saturday the 18th at Noon.

I hope this time works-out for people. We will need to "solidify" the date/time by this weekend or so. If anyone screams loud enough, we can change it to Sunday the 19th.

I have a friend/fellow ARF.commer who is a member there. He might be able to help out. I will give him a call tomorrow.

Yes Bob, that would be you =)

Ok... sounds like fun

El nino has been keeping us above average on temps, so should be no big deal. I have a few 1 gallon jugs I can bring (filled of course). As to firewood, gas stations sell little bundles, and you can find pressed logs on sale cheap enough.

If I can make it (2nd weekend job, WSA Snocross) my friends and I would love to come and blow some old computer shit to hell and back.

I gotta check.

FUCK!  I have to work in Theif River Falls that whole fucking weekend and I have to work this weekend too. :(

Where the hell is Princeton?  I mean, I need to know some things first before I can make it...  I might have to work at 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM that night (Depending on the shifts)  So I'll need to figure out these things:

1.)  How long does it take to drive From downtown to Princeton?  Holy Sh!t!  That's 1hr 15 min away if there's NO TRAFFIC, 60 miles!  I can make it there...  But that's a lot of driving for an old 1985 car.  I will need to buy one of those emergency cary jump-starter kit/battery thingies, then I'll be safe.  (I should buy one anyway)
2.)  How much ammo should I bring? Stupid question, I'll bring all that I have...
3.)  Can anybody give me a jumpstart if my Car putters out (It's been getting unreliable lately)?
4.)  Is there a rate-of-fire limit?  (Forrest lake sportsman's club gets pissy about that sort of thing)  Another stupid question, if they shoot MG's there, why would they get pissy if I bump-fire @ a gravel pit?
5.)  How many friends can I bring?  I was going to be bringing some new shooters if it were @ armored fire (to give them a more 'structured' exposure/introduction to shooting).

I will likely bring the newbies out shooting sometime before that saturday then...  That way I will get them to learn more safety if they do go here...

Matt,

If transportation is a problem, you can get a ride from me, but I would only have room enough for one.

If your friends go, maybe THEY could drive?

It is only 40 minutes from Brooklyn Park.

We can always change the time to 10 or 11 am! How about that?
1/2/2003 8:17:16 PM EDT
[#11]
So the date is set then???   Saturday the 18th correct???

I am planning on asking a Class 3 buddy of mine to attend,...(nice toys)heavy.gif,.. and don't want to waste his time if it's not set in stone.

Would like to know before Sat.

Sounds like a great time, nice range also mmmmmh,....bump fire...hanks-

1/3/2003 12:19:44 AM EDT
[#12]
Yes, you can bump-fire there.

Saturday Jan 18th. 11 AM.

I will try to be there at 10 AM, maybe earlier.

I think we will have enough people there to get the cost to $10/person.

I'm going to have to pass on this one, I have to be up in Grand Rapids on the 17th-20th.

Looking forward to the Feb/March shoot.

[#14]
Sorry to hear that, Chad.

How about a quickie at AF sometime?

LOL
1/3/2003 9:23:00 AM EDT

I've got a 15 month old daughter at home....Inever pass up a quickie
1/3/2003 9:50:42 AM EDT
[#16]
LMFAO Lurch!  I've been single for over a year now, and I now can relate to needing a quickie whenever possible.

Now that I've got a job, I can buy more toys to use during those quickies, and the best part is that I can get quickies more often too!  Regardless of all the girls I've been dating lately!  Ahh...  The joys of having a job, and no GF.

Wait a second, we are talking about quickies to Armored Fire?  Aren't we?

Then again, they're all the same, aren't they?
1/3/2003 11:49:31 AM EDT
[#17]
well...not quite the same.  It usually takes me longer to bump fire a 30 rounder than the quickie at home
1/6/2003 7:21:09 PM EDT
[#18]
Any additional information as to what to bring?  Does someone have firewood yet?  I told a friend of mine about this, he's going to bring his Rem 700 .308 VLS w/ Leupold (If he can make it).  Other than that, not much new for me yet.  My new job is pretty kewl.  I'll be pi$$ed as hell if I get scheduled that day!  I already got scheduled this saturday for a night shift at last minute...  [:\]

Matt,

You WILL be sick on the 18th! Especially if they call you into work...Better yet, just dont answer the phone.

I think the firewood situation is the only thing we would normally not think of.

AND DONT FORGET YOUR CAMERA THIS TIME!
1/6/2003 9:25:38 PM EDT

I'll certainly try to be sick!  If something comes up, I'll try to have someone cover for my shift...

My parents have a lake place up by Marcell - I'll be doing a little sledding, a little shooting, and a little drinking.....probably in that order.

[#23]
Do you have any snow up there? My guess is "yes", but given that we have none down here and it is supposed to be close to 50 today...
1/7/2003 7:36:30 AM EDT
[#24]
What little bit of snow we had is getting melted away today. Looks really nice out there today looking out my office window.

Lurch, What lake? We are gonna need some snow if you are going sledding!

[#25]
comp - it's Clubhouse Lake, home to three largemouth and one elusive northern.

If there's no snow, I'll just have to spend my gas money on more ammo.....and more beer.

Are you close to Marcell?

Hi HammAR!

Sure, more the merrier!

I think we have 7 or 8 people so far, with a couple people bringing friends etc.

It will be $10/head. Bring food/non-alc beverages for yourself and your toys!

Maybe a small donation of firewood too. Not too sure on the firewood situation just yet!

Eric

if someone is coming through WI (94) to get there, I could donate firewood/old deck wood if someone was so inclined to pick it up.
1/8/2003 5:16:05 PM EDT
[#30]
I'm pretty sure I can make it.  I have truck loads of junk wood pallets that I cut up and burn in my dads barn wood stove.  I will fill up my pick up (if you want me to)and bring it up.  I can also "weld up" some plate targets.  I'll run over to St Paul and see about getting some more steel plate for targets.  The scrap yards usually will give it away for free.

Neighborhood, I always carry jumper cableswith me.  I'd offer a ride, but I probably won't come back until Sunday night.  My folks live just a little north of there.  And if it snows befor then, the Polaris will be calling for me.  I'll need to take her out for a romp if there's white stuff on the ground.

BTW, Neighborhood, when did you acieve "Mod" status??? Congrats!!!
1/8/2003 7:21:20 PM EDT
[#31]
Sleepy, That sounds GREAT!

I talked to Ken this morning and it is definitely a "GO". We can plan on shooting form 11 AM till about 5 pm or so (dark o'clock).

Price is set at $10 per person use fees. They usually charge extra for extra guns, but he waived it (Ken is a VERY nice guy).

Every needs to be on their best behavior. Dont wreck stuff that can be wrecked etc...

Hope to see everyone there!

Sleepy717,  Thanks for the offer of the Jump Start.  I just got my electrical system checked out.  I found out that my Alternator is dying, but not yet dead.  My battery is fine otherwise.  It's just running at a low 46.6 Amps!  I bought a second car battery, a battery box, and some jumper cables so that if I'm ever on the road, I can jump my own car all by myself.  I now trust my car better.  I still need to change out the alternator with a new one when I get the $$ though.

Also, I got the Moderator status about 3? days ago?  I'm only a moderator for the Minnesota Hometown discussions though.  I just have to watch for things getting out of line.  Basically it just gives me justification for my addiction of checking the local forums twice a day...

DevilsAdvocate, It was great seeing you again today!  I was wondering if you can IM me about what those prices were for the case of ammo again...  I forgot where & how much it costs.  I'm checking Sportsmansguide online now...  Also preparing photos for upload too.

iNuhbad... I've had to do "put one battery on the passenger floor and run the cables out the window duct taped to the fender and in the hood to the bad battery" befor.  You get some pretty funny looks from people doing that one.  Do you have access to tools?  That alt. should be a pretty easy one to swap out.

Mat,

Let me know when you pop for an alternator. I have a bright, heated garage w/ enough tools to install it.

Actually, I will teach you to install it. LOL

Thanks Devils!  I'd love to learn how to do it myself!  I'm not too good with complex engines, and never did anything with belts before...  I'd like to learn how though.  The only engines I've ever worked on were for my single-cylinder antique enduro dirt bike, a Honda SL-70 72cc black & yellow beauty.  Man I miss that bike!  It had a nice & simple engine/design.  When I get the right alternator for it, I'll give you a call!  Thanks for the educational offer!

YUP!  I've got ALL DAY OFF!    But I'm going to be driving 2 friends in my car there...  One's bringing a Remington 700 VLS with 3.5-10x?40 Leupold M3 Tactical scope in .308.  Might want to try some Portuguese .308 in there for a great accuracy test on the ammo!

The other friend that's coming is a newbie, and is under 21 though ...

Depending upon where the bar is, I might be able to drop my friends off & still go...

HEHEHE!!! Us AR15.com guys shouldn't have ANY trouble.  Just rotate down the trigger guard and wear gloves/mittens, snow pants, long undies, boots, double thick socks, hats...  Come ON!  We're TRUE MINNESOTANS AREN'T WE?  I'm a minnesnowtan!  I love a good snowfall.  Nothing like throwing on snow whites & crawling through the snow, plinking small game with a .22 LR through the snowy woods!  Or did you miss out on that part of childhood?

I havent said anything until now because I was sceduled to work saturday, but I now have the day off!!  Hope you wont mind one more.  I just finished my trunkgun project(well close enough) and I will bring my oly 9mm setup, AR7 preban and...maybe someother cool stuff.  I need to go and pick up ammo tomorrow morning.  Snow would be kinda cool on saturday!  Doesnt matter as long as we are all blasting!

My friend wants to know a couple things:

1.  Are there bench rests in the heated trailer?
2.  What's the capacity of this heated trailer?

He might need to buy a Harris Bipod before coming, and he needs to find out if this will be necessary.

Thanks for the info if you guys know...
1/15/2003 3:31:21 PM EDT
[#48]
We are still on...here is the map again... 11 am Saturday, till dusk 0'clock.

The trailer will hold about 15 people w/ (I think) 10 shooting spots. There may be others there, but thats ok as its an awesome place.

No "bench rests", but there are table-type things there to sit at. Maybe bring a chair just in case.

So what's the official attendance count up to?

I'm bringing 2 friends, so my total is:

3

I think I counted a total of 10 people who will be showing up???  who else was going to bring a +1 or whatever?  I'll tell my friend that he's likely going to want that bipod.  Thx for the fast reply guys!
1/15/2003 6:36:05 PM EDT
[#50]
I dont know if there is an official count, but cost is $10 each for any amount of people who show up as of last discussion with our host.

I THINK there will be about 10 or so, which is not too big and not too small.
