Just learned this evening that my son-in-law (with daughter and grandkids) is being transferred to Minneapolis sometime this summer from Texas. They are thinking about living in Edina. I know nothing about Minnesota. Is Edina a decent place to live? How are the handgun laws when it comes to carrying? Any info over anything/everything would help.
Thanks, ST |

CCW is good to go with a clean background check. We allow open or concealed carry in MN. Edina is the high-rent cake-eater district. Edina = Every Day I Need Attention Good to hear about the area. Son-in-law is getting a huge raise to move to snow country, so more power to them if they can live in a town like that. In checking on the the area, I see I will only be only visiting during the summer, never in the winter. Don't like drivng in the snow since here in Texas I NEVER see it. Thanks for the info. |

Edina is nice. I live close and visit my niece there frequently. If I was going to live in a burb it would probably be that one. mcneilsen is gtg too if they are buying. McNeilsen ... is that a town, home dealer? And if Edina is too $$$ what other towns would you look at? |

Really depends on what sort of environment they're looking for and what they want to be close to (which side of the Cities they want to be on). There are a ton of different suburbs, and they all have their own qualities. |
| I'd say Edina, Minnetonka and Plymouth would be about the same, taxes and schools. But if he's looking at Edina, it would probably be closer to his work. You can live in some parts of Minnetonka and go to a Wayzata school (located in Plymouth). He might as well look at Eden Prairie also, my dad lived there for awhile and it was nice. |

I grew up in Edina. Edina is basically a bedroom community. If you live in Edina, the places to avoid are the following; St. Louis Park. Minneapolis. Richfield. Bloomington. Eden Prairie. Hopkins. And be especially wary of the riff-raff around France and 44th.
And for damn sure stay away from that shady cesspool North Oaks. |

Do you have specific reasons to avoid the cities above? |

Do you have specific reasons to avoid the cities above? The buildings are taller, so it's harder for Edina residents to look down their noses when they're in those cities. |

There are plenty of fun things to do here in the winter. Snowmobiling, skiing/snowboarding, we have some awesome tubing and sledding hills, ice fishing, and the list goes on and on. Usually the roads are cleared fairly quickly because we get snow pretty regularly. It's only an issue for a day or so normally. Don't knock it till you try it. |

I assume he's kidding, since those cities/towns/suburbs surround Edina. |

Well it look like they are now looking at the Eden Prairie area. Whats the word on that area? How are the schools? ScubaTexas Pretty decent school system. Do you know what city he'll be working in? In and around Minneapolis for the most part. Son in law has to live within 40 miles of a major airport for his job. 60% of his work is from home, 40% travel. Got the word tonight, he got the job, they will be moving in late May. How is the weather in October, that is when I will be going to visit. ST |
|
October is the best month of the year here, as far as weather goes. Nice and cool most of the month, it can get to 90 and as cold as -10.
Just looked it up at Wiki. October Highest Temperature98 °F (37 °C)October 5, 1963Beardsley Lowest Temperature−16 °F (−27 °C)October 26, 1936Roseau |

Someone please point me to a web site where I can start learning about MN gun laws. There is some information stickied at the top of this HTF forum. There is a reference section on a different website's carry forum. ( http://www.carryforum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=23 (cold linked on purpose.)) |

Bring flip-flops and a parka, you'll be fine. Oh by the way, just to give you an idea of the schizophrenic weather; it is currently snowing here. Yea. Usually all of the snow melts only once in a winter. So far we have had a few times where the grass went from white to green and back to white. We'll only have one ice-out on the lakes this year, but that is only because most of them have't thawed out completely yet. |

It's about 5-6 miles to the airport, easy access to all the major highways, reasonable property taxes, etc. etc. |
|
40 miles from the major airport?
Damn, you could live ANYWHERE in the metro or 1st, 2nd, 3rd ring suburbs. That means he could be a downtowner all the way out to being a farmer. Seriously, I live 35 minutes from St. Paul (45 if traffic is extra heavy.) If I lived any further I would need a john Deere to take care of my lawn. |

OK another city to request info over. Rosemount, anything good, bad? Thanks, ST Rosemount is close to the cities, but it is too far off the major highways. If looking in rosemount, check out: Eagan, Burnsville, Apple Valley, Lakeville. Same area, just closer to the main highways. |
