Wants to make MN the highest tax state in the country. Is proposing raising tax rates for the "wealthiest" by an insane amount. |

I know it had been talked about before as something he wanted to do. I was afraid he had come out and announced by "wealthiest", he meant everyone making more than 65k/yr or something absurd like that I'm probably not in his "wealthy" tax bracket but it doesn't matter...why would I want to continue to live here if they're going to choke me out? Shit, I'm single and can move if I need to...the commute from WI ain't the worst I've ever done...
Nor's the commute from Iowa, for that matter

The guy is nuts; he's doubling down on Illinois and the businesses are already fleeing that state like rats on a sinking ship
Jason Lewis posited that he's just doing it to appease his base since he knows the proposal won't last 5 minutes in the legislature. Let's hope thats the case

Single person 85K in taxable income (i.e. after all deductions), 150K in taxible income for families (after all deductions); and a 3% surtax on incomes over 500K (who no longer get deductions at that income level).

If you make $85k, you are a rich SOB who deserves to be soaked, according to Dayton. Is this $85K for a single person or family? |

Somehow I'm glad I lost my good paying job last year and my wife works for one of the lowest paying schools in MN, I feel like I am screwing the Government by paying less in taxes.

The 3 highest tax rates in the nation (currently) are:
California: %10.55 if you make $1,000,000 or more/yr Oregon: %11 if you make $250,000 or more/yr Hawaii: %11 if you make $200,000 or more/yr source This...Dayton fella's proposal would make this state's highest tax rate the 3rd highest in the nation (MORE THAN CALI-F%@KING-FORNIA), and said tax rate would be applied sooo much incredibly lower than the other states with slightly higher (yeah, .05%) tax rates... Christ. I make more than $85k/yr (no, I'm not even near rich, trust me on this one...). I need to do the math; less than $74,000 has a %7.05 tax rate and $74,500+ has the current state highest tax bracket at %7.85. I wonder what the take-home is for someone making 74k/yr vs 84k/yr vs 100k/yr would be, with the 3 tax rates. |

I think he also wants to change the law(s) so that people who live six months and one day in another state can't get out of paying MN taxes. The result is that those folks will dump their Minnesota properties in the middle of a housing slump (driving prices even lower for housing, forcing more folks upside down in their loans), and lose all revenue from these folks. Money is fungible and people are free to live where they will. People will just move away completely. The lack of vision and lack of ability to draw logical conclusions about how rational people will respond to his proposal is frightening. There are already empirical evidence of what happens when a state or municipality raises taxes on those most able to move; they move! What a fucking dumbass! |
