| Anyone know good and cheap health insurance? I might be loosing mine soon. |

Depends on what you consider cheap. When I lost my job in July of 09 I did the COBRA thing for one month while I figured out some options. The end result is that me and my two children use Health Partners 3 for free. Our deductible is 5K... each. I pay under 400 per month for all 3 of us. While is is not great... it does provide a means in case of some medical disaster. Is it where I want to be with a family. No... I still am looking for work and hope to get one someday... my hopes of that seem to fade each month. Its a catch 22. I can't take a low paying job and pay for daycare. Long story.
If you are under 30 and don't smoke and have no existing major health concerns you can find something that won't break the bank. Of course unless something nasty happens. Its a risk. I would rather cough up the 5k per person than have nothing or not be able to make my mortgage payment because of health insurance. Truth be told... when I just pay for my medical visits... the amount is surprisingly small. About $70 for an office visit. About $230 for a specialist. I am sure others will have perhaps better information. All I can say is what worked for my family. |

ive been without it for a few years. work / business was slow for 08-09 so i just let it expire.
i had a heat stroke the first 98 degree day in spring 2009. it was out of the ordinary, and in like APRIL. so the heat stroke kicks in. id never had one. i go to the ER. a few weeks later i get a bill for $3600 bucks. i negotiated with them and they dropped it to $1,400 bucks. the point of all this is my previous insurance was $205 a month. the deductible, was $1,400 bucks. while i know its stupid not to have it in my line of work, at the time i "saved" $205 a month per X amount of months if you really think about it. if something SUPER catastrophic ever happens... the last thing ill be worried about is the Doc bills. i do still plan on finding insurance as soon as possible, but i keep reading reports of peoples health coverage going up 100-200% for "no reason" since ObamaCare was passed. |

My company is going to Bloom Health this year. We haven't started yet, but it looks like you basically create an account, pick all the stuff you want, and get in on group deals with whatever you decide on. They made it sound like one person might have Healthpartners, and the next guy over end up with Blue Cross Blue Shield. The program is yours to keep if you leave your employer, they just stop kicking in towards your deductable.
They have a link for "Individual" on their site too. Bloom Health Individual Like I said, haven't started it yet, so no real feedback on how good the pricing is. Might be an option though. Good luck! |

I really wish health insurance was like auto insurance, where I can pick and choose which parts are more valuable to me.
But, there are so many silly mandates, especially in MN, you can't really purchase out of state coverage to save a few buck. Anyhow, hope you find something that works. |
