I was just going through the carry laws, and i struck me that recently I haven't heard much about the fees being charged. The law states only reasonable fees based on the actual costs can be charged, with a maximum of $100 for initial permit, and $75 for renewals.
So, does it miraculously cost every department $100 or more to do the initial background check? Anyone charge less than max?? |

Maybe some other members from other counties (rural Minnesota) can chime in, but I think all of the metro counties will charge up to the max allowed price, and will take up to the max allowed time to process the CCW. |

I have this very vague recollection that at least 1 county was less than $100 at one time, but that come from a year or two after the law went into effect. I figured if there was a dollar amount listed in the law, that would be what was charged. I think I was right, unfortunately. ETA: The reply about Beltrami county came in while writing this post, good to see at least 1 honest county. Maybe some counties are truly $100+, but it does seem odd that almost all are. |
