My CCW expires in august of this year. I would love to renew it during the winter months when I am less busy.
I have no idea of what is needed to do so. Anyone know how to renew and when is the earliest you can renew??? thanks |

I think you have to take a re-new class and then re-apply for the permit. I expire right around then also.
I believe this is what we need. Please correct if I have my facts wrong. http://www.dps.state.mn.us/bca/CJIS/Documents/CarryPermit/permittocarry.html 42. What is the process for renewing my permit? * Take an authorized firearms training class within one year prior to your renewal application. * Deliver the application packet, not prior to 90 days of the expiration date of the current permit, in person to the Sheriff’s Department in the county where you currently reside, or for out of state permit holders, to any Sheriff’s Department in the State of Minnesota. * The packet must contain a completed application, signed and dated http://www.dps.state.mn.us/bca/Forms/Documents/CarryApplication100106.pdf with the renewal box checked and an original certificate of completed authorized firearms training. You must present a current drivers license, state identification card or the photo page of your passport (not a US citizen but permanent resident must present an I-551 or I-151 card). |
| Pretty sure the couse renewal has to be with in 364 days of expiration date, and the renewal can be applied for 90 days before the expiration date. Same deal attend class, submit form in person and pay the toll, and wait for the new permit. Nothing special. It is all up to you. Find a class and do the process! Simple indeed! |
| IIRC, when I renewed, the sheriff's department had a schedule of renewal costs. In other words, if you renewed "x" days before it was due, then the cost was "y." If you renewed after the expiration, it was full cost. It would be well worth a call to your local sheriff's department to check on that. I would bet the fees are different for each county, and I remember saving like $25 in my county. |
