Any of you guys into ice fishing...? Drove by Baxter (S.E. of Princeton, near Blue Lake) yesterday and there were close to a dozen portables out on the ice already. I'm gonne run over this morning and test drive my auger, check ice thickness, and if need be toss out a couple tip ups for good measure.

Sweet good to know.  Didn't think it was thick enough yet.

If you can get frozen shad that works great too.  If you get to Minneapolis,  Moore's Bait & Tackle has fresh frozen shad there.  Its on 57th and Lyndale in Minneapolis.
Their phone is 612-861-7412

I still drive down there from Anoka for the Shad.  Can't beat it for Pike, Walleye, Cat fish and Sturgeon on the river.

I was on the ice for a couple of hours this afternoon. Weather was good, not too cold. Six inches of ice to work with. The bigger lakes are not ready as of yet, but I'm sure in another wek or so with good weather you'll see shelters on them. Baxter is always one of the first to open and last to close in this area.

I'm going over to Elk Lake this afternoon and check the ice. That is supposed to be one of the better lakes in this part of town. They all get a decent amount of pressure, but Elk Lake also has a bar / restaurant in case the fishing gets slow.... Once we get some better ice I do believe this is where I will put the house for the season.

I'm thinking it'll be another week for southern MN for good ice, but anyone in the Hutchinson/New Ulm/Mankato area up for a day of fishing? I'm looking at 4-5 weeks of no work and gotta find things to do .

MNGuns are we talking "Baxter" as in SE of Princeton "Baster".  Great crappie lake, haven't fished it in years.

Duhh!  Didn't finish reading your first post.  Sorry.  I was spending so much time looking at your avatar.  I have the S&W 500 factory weapon and my wife just got me the .460 PC version that looks just like yours.

Good luck fishing.
