For those attending the Small Element Tactics Course on August 30. Start Time: 0800hrs Be prepared to be on your feet a lot of the day, very little sit down. You will be working with a partner or several team mates. Be prepared to be in close proximity and in physical contact with others going through doors and windows, and possibly some vehicle tactics if time permits. There will be lots of close quarter shooting and decision based shooting. We will be using distraction devices and doing manual breaching. I give a big High-5 to this group, as you were all very good with control which made things safe and we were able to move at a comfortable speed. I could definately see an advanced course in your future, we should look at some dates and we will have to restock on munitions. It was a great course. The day started with a safety brief, definitions, and time was spent on what is expected and what to do in great detail. From there we started into the basic fundamentals of working as a team in small elements. All were taught how to do approaches, breaching of doors and windows both manually and shotgun breaching, room clearing and domination, room within a room, multiple rooms, team rolling cover, rolling point, team reloads and malfunctions for close quarter, window and doorway entries, multiple entry points, porting, etc. Distractions were also well practiced and used, I think we went through around a case of bangs, and all got a great amount of practice raking and breaking. I hope we didn't wear anyone out with all the breaching, as I think everyone got to do at least 20 shotgun breaches, and I am not sure how many windows. Everyone shot extremely well, especially with all the multiple hostage targets, and some of the angles were definatly challenging on the move, while going through windows and porting. A big thanks to Sully and his staff for putting on a great day of training Thanks to my fellow classmates for coming out as well. Sully recapped everything pretty well and it was a lot more than I imagined. There are very few people I would feel comfortable training with, especially the amount of weapon handling in such a close space . Some were at the class and some were not. Hopefully in the future we get a few more as it would be one hell of a class. |
