took my AR15 out to the range today-

details-

Colt Match Target lower, Rock River Arms 16" mid-length upper, .223 iron sights.

no real wind, slight breeze, about 15-20 degrees out. cloudy.

ammo-

new brass, winchester small rifle primers, Hornady 55gr. FMJ boat tail with 24.7Gr H335

targets at 100 yards, bench rest

this is my first time loading .223 myself, did these loads yesterday evening

i also managed to hit a steel target, at 200 yards, that was about the size of a basketball, 6 out of 10 times WHILE STANDING!!! woot!

not bad for being blind in my right eye

I call BS.  Look at that grass.  You musta stolen those pictures from someone else!

J/K, nice work.  I always enjoy someone who can work iron sights efficiently!

I just sighted in my Trijicon equipped SLR15 commander.  Shoots nice 1-1.5" groups at 100 yards.

It was a little cool out there though.  15 degrees and a bit of wind.  I did have my Dad with, who now lives in North Carolina.  He was freezing his ass off, but did have fun blasting a cardboard sillhouette target all to hell.  Managed to keep all the rounds in the A zone at 25 yards standing.  Not bad for someone who has never shot a rifle, let alone an AR!

Pic to go with it:

The one I'm using is the 4x mag version.  It has a bullet drop compensator so it lets you shoot out to 600 using a crosshair in the scope, and the 4x mag lets you actually see it for those of us that have a hard time picking out targets that far with the naked eye.

I can pick out targets pretty well out to 100 yards unaided, and larger targets out to about 300 yards (like 9x18" steel plates or 18" round plates) but past that it gets pretty dicey for me.

It's also a fiber optic/tritium combo sight so it "glows" in both light and dark, making it useful for low light situations.

For CQB distances, the 4x mag (at least for me) becomes a hindrance, but some people swear by them even as close as 15 yards.  I guess I don't have enough experience to know for sure.

I already have an iron sight carbine (see pic) so I wanted an optic gun for some of the longer range stuff.  If my eyes were like they were 10 years ago, it wouldn't be that big of an issue, but today, my eyes need a little help.
