i drive to cottage grove to pick up the rest of my deer. 10 pounds of the best beer sticks ive ever had, and 26 pounds of summer sausage.

my deer was actually pretty big for a 3 pointer, must have been eating well. but not nearly as well as what i saw today.........

i got a mile from the butcher shop- and noticed in the tree line the ass end of a deer. i dont know how my blind ass spots a deers ass so well but i do somehow. i threw on the brakes and pulled over.

out into the field walks a nice sized 6 pointer. then i saw another one behind it....

a 12 pointer that must have weighed about 230 pounds, i almost shit myself. i busted out the binoculars- he was the biggest deer ive seen in the wild ever. the rack went almost straight up in the air a foot or more, and must have been a foot and a half wide.

ooooh the irony. here i spend days on end 240 miles from home, bag a 3 pointer, and ten minutes away from my house the whole time was a 12 pointer, right by my butcher shop!!!!!!

maybe its a sign- i watched a doe eat for an hour and a half my last night hunting, didnt shoot her because she was too small- now i get the privilidge of seeing that monster buck.

After work one day when I worked for Mistake Lake Casino I was being nice to a co-worker and dropping him off at his place on my way home.  He was going on & on about deer hunting, etc...  I just told him, "Well, I never thought much of deer hunting.  It'd maybe be fun, but they never did anything to me..."  I dropped him off, and about 5 minutes later on my drive home I hit a deer with my Oldsmobile!  Little bastard came out of nowhere in the treeline at night.

Took his leg off, and put him out of misery with my side-arm and then drove home to call the DNR.  Up until then they never did anything to me.

Got my revenge this fall though.

Who did your beer sticks?   Was it Von Hanson's?    I heard they do a very good job.  Live just north of there in Newport.     kschwa

I'll check them out too.

I process my deer myself & like to make a lot of jerky with nitrites, seasoning, and an oven with the door cracked open at 225 degrees.  If you can get your hands on a meat slicer, 1/2 frozen roasts slice thin & beautifully.

I've got a doe hanging in my garage right now waiting for me to come home & butcher her up, but I am stuck in stoopid New Jersey on a business trip for a couple of days.
