My friend and I are thinking about going to the gun show @ Xcel on the 18th. Never been to a MWCA show, are they any good, specially if I am looking for ARs? Basically, is it worth the time and $5 entrance fee?

DPMS usually has a booth, Dustin has a pretty good selection of items.

Defense Edge (SLR15's) is at some of the shows, If you email Sully he may be able to bring what you are looking for.

The Xcel and State Fair Grounds shows are some of the better shows for the year.

To me it is worth the $5.00

In realtity the MWCA shows are the only decent shows.  The Fairground show in March is the granddaddy of shows.  Gun shows have gone down hill so to speak and we only have the internet to blame for that.  But, there are some great people to deal with
as previously mentioned DPMS does well by the patrons.  Hart Bros has a broad selection.  And, there are some smaller dealers that have decent prices.  Reloading supplies are hard to come by, main supplier is Wolf's Den out of Hugo.  Oak Grove Arms is well stocked for some gear and guns.  DE is there with their SLR rifles and accessories.

+1 to the guys above.  It's WELL worth your time & the 5 bucks.

Also, I gather from the MN home town forum that it's best to get there early for the best deals.  I can't say fo' sho' because I can't hardly make it before noon!

Don't forget, at the Xcel show, it's not just $5 to get in, it's $10 to park as well.  So is it worth $15?

Personaly, I prefer the various fairgrounds shows, but I'll probably be at the Xcel show anyway (just like every other MWCA show).

ETA:  I only go to the MWCA shows now-a-days.  I don't bother with the Croc Production shows anymore.

Didn't think about that, but I'll split it, and it seems so far like the consensus is it would probably be worth it, even having to pay for parking.

MWCA shows are the only ones I go to because the Croc shows are a joke.

I usually park around 5 blocks to the east of the Xcel and pay nothing to park.

It's only $5-$7  if you park in the science museum ramp.

The $10 to park is nothing compared to the $20 in gas you burnt to get there....

That depends more on where you live, and whether or not you drive something with 4x4 or made by the Big-3...    Thankfully we blew up the Oldsmobile or that'd be a $6.00 drive just to get to the Excel from the apartment.

As for the gunshow, I think you'll find it's definitely worth the $5.00 fee + $10 parking...

But it really depends on what you buy, and how much you save...

If you're gonna buy stuff from DPMS or DE/SLR-15, then it's DEFINITELY worth the $$ since you're going to be getting quite a deal on AR-15 parts, gear, bags, etc...

I think the gunshows here are a waste of time, unless you going there to specifically see or buy something--like from sully or DPMS.  I haven't found too many deals when I have attended--selection isn't that great except at the few dealers already mentioned.  From what I understand actual members of the MWCA get to go in a hour or so earlier than the public so the good deals are pretty much picked through.    just my opinion--be kind

FYI for people headed to St. Paul for the gun show, a section of I-94 between Minneapolis and St. Paul will be closed over the weekend. So if your headed in from the west of the metro, you may need to plan for a slightly altered route over to River Centre in St. Paul.

there were a bunch of stripped lowers for sale though.  Dpms didn't have any, but I saw 4-5 stag, one booth with several DPMS lowers and a few essential arms and a few others.

+1 there.  I bought a few part's for my AR lower.  1 oversize selecter, and some ne front sights to try.  Bought the pack with everything in it for posts and one hooded crosshair sight I wanted to try on the front too.  So we'll see what I like.  I'm leaning more toward one of the ball points so far.  Hopefully I'll pick up my upper at the Del-Tone show this weekend complete with tromix shark break!!!
After that prolly sell it and get and SLR.  I SO WANT A GRAIL!!!!

One of the most well-balanced, comfortable, quick-to-employ, and sweet shooting rifles ever built...

If you manage to see one at a DE/SLR-15 table at the gunshows you've GOT TO feel 'er up!

I'd LOVE to get a Grail someday!

Well, Dustin at DPMS said that they will be selling at Del-Tone this weekend during the 3 Gun Shoot they are putting on.  With great deals like at the gunshow.  But being DPMS is right there they has access to their store so you can get whatever you want at the gunshow bargan prices Dustin gives!!!!

OH!  And yes Like INuhBad says.  Pick up the Grail and fondle it and ask Sully what it does for groups.  [cartmen]  SWEEET!!! [cartmen]  DAMN I WANT ONE!!!

And McNielsen I'm definately gonna take some classes!
How's the lil man doing?
